Gian Paolo Lomazzo
Gian Paolo Lomazzo (26 April 1538 – 27 January 1592; his first name is sometimes also given as "Giovan" or "Giovanni") was an Italian artist and writer on art. Praised as a painter, Lomazzo wrote about artistic practice and art theory after blindness compelled him to pursue a different professional path by 1571. Lomazzo's written works were especially influential to second generation Mannerism in Italian art and architecture. Early life Gian Paolo Lomazzo was born in Milan from a family who had emigrated from the town of Lomazzo. His early training was with Giovan Battista della Cerva in Milan. He painted a large ''Allegory of the Lenten Feast'' for ''San Agostino'' in Piacenza (1567). Other works by his hand include an elaborate dome with ''Glory of Angels'' for the Capella Foppa in San Marco in Milan, and the ''Fall of Simon Magus'' in the wall of the chapel. Antiveduto Grammatica
Antiveduto Grammatica (1571 – April 1626) was a proto- Baroque Italian painter, active near Rome. Grammatica was born in either Siena or Rome. According to Giovanni Baglione the artist was given the name Antiveduto ("foreseen") because his father had a premonition that he would soon be born during a journey between his native Siena and Rome. It was in Rome that Antiveduto was baptised, raised and based his career. His apprenticeship with the Perugian artist Giovanni Domenico Angelini (Giandomenico Perugino) introduced him to small-scale work, mostly on copper. He gained the nickname "gran Capocciante" because he specialised in painting heads of famous men. A decade later, in 1591, Antiveduto set up as an independent artist. Grammatica's earliest surviving public commission, an old-fashioned configuration depicting ''Christ the Saviour with St. Stanislaus of Krakow, St. Adalbert of Prague and St Hyacinth Odrowaz'', was painted for the high altar of Santo Stanislao dei Pola ...

Hans Asper
Hans Asper ( 1499 – 21 March 1571) was a Swiss painter best known for his portraits. Life Asper was born c. 1499 in Zurich, where he lived his entire life. Nothing is known of him until 1526, when he married the daughter of Ludwig Nöggi, a master carpenter who sat in the city council, and Asper himself was a citizen of some standing, being elected to the Great Council in 1545. He is thought to have studied with Hans Leu the Younger, in Zurich, and appears to have received early influence in portrait painting from the works of Hans Holbein the Younger. His first artworks date from 1531, with possibly the most well-known portrait of Swiss reformator Huldrych Zwingli, painted with oil on parchment. In the same year Asper painted the interiors of some of Zurich's government buildings, being at the time the official painter to the city. He painted in a variety of styles, and is particularly known for his studies of flowers and fruit. Many of his works are lost. Notable works ...
