Dr. C. K. Gandhirajan is an Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer of the 1985 batch belonging to the Tamil Nadu cadre. Hailing from Thiruvallur District, he serves as the Director General of Police, Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services in Tamil Nadu. He obtained a PhD. in criminology from the University of Madras. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) is the civil service training institution in India. The institute trains Indian Police Service (IPS) officers before they are sent to their respective state cadres to carry out their duties. The academy is in Shivrampalli, Hyderabad, Telangana, India. History The academy was established on 15 September 1948, as the ''Central Police Training College (CPTC)''. In 1967, the Institution was renamed as the ''National Police Academy (NPA)''. Assistant superintendent, or assistant superintendent of police (ASP), is a rank that was used by police forces in the British Empire and is still used in many police forces in the Commonwealth.
