CLG An Clochán Liath is a Gaelic football only GAA club based in An Clochán Liath, a Gaeltacht town in County Donegal, Ireland. The club fields both men's and ladies' teams at underage to Senior level. However, they currently play at intermediate level. The club were relegated to intermediate after 33 years in the 2020 Donegal Senior Football Championship. History An Clochán Liath have won the Donegal Senior Football Championship on seven occasions, the last coming in 1958. The club has had two players selected to the All-Ireland SFC All Star team: All-Ireland winning full forward Tony Boyle in 1992 and Adrian Sweeney in 2003. Noel McCole was the goalkeeper on the 1974 and 1983 Ulster Championship winning teams for Donegal, although he had transferred to St. Eunan's in 1979. All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. Each tournament ends with a final, played by the 35th Sunday of the year at Croke Park in Dublin, with the winning team receiving the Sam Maguire Cup. John O'Donnell (Gaelic Footballer)
John "Hughie" O'Donnell (born Daniel John O'Donnell 1910 - 7 January 1954) was an Irish Gaelic footballer. A native of Dungloe, he was the foremost player in County Donegal, and a household name throughout the country, in the mid-1930s. O'Donnell had become one of Ulster GAA, Ulster's most popular footballers by the time he made his last appearance for the province in the GAA Interprovincial Championship, Railway Cup of 1937. Adrian Hanlon
Adrian Hanlon (born 1980s) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for West London GAA club St Clarets and also, formerly, for the Donegal county football team, Donegal county team. He was a panel member when Donegal won the 2012 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. Biography John Joe Doherty first invited Hanlon, a forward, to join the Donegal senior squad in 2009. That year he replaced Colm McFadden on McFadden's 100th championship appearance, which led to some controversy. 2014 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship
The 2014 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship is the premier "knockout" competition for under-18 competitors who play the game of Gaelic football in Ireland. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The 2014 series of games started in May with the majority of the games played during the summer months. The All-Ireland Minor Football Final took place on 21 September in Croke Park, Dublin, preceding the Senior Game. In 2014 the title sponsor was Electric Ireland. 2007 National Football League (Ireland)
The 2007 National Football League was the Gaelic football league, contested by 32 GAA counties football teams, 31 from Ireland (as Kilkenny don't compete) and London from England. Due to the extended reshuffling of the structure for the 2008 campaign, survival in Divisions 1A and 1B, was much more precarious—with four relegation places in these divisions, the bottom two teams were relegated to Division 3, and the teams finishing in 5th place and 6th places were relegated to Division 2. Donegal won the 2007 National Football League by securing the Division One title, a historic achievement and their first National Football League title. They were unbeaten throughout the competition. Raymond Sweeney
Raymond Sweeney is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for An Clochán Liath and the Donegal county team. He started the first game of Brian McEniff's last spell as Donegal manager, a league defeat to Galway in Tuam in February 2003. Sweeney was sent off in Donegal's 2003 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final against Armagh at Croke Park, in an incident later described as "one of the great injustices in Donegal football" history. Tony Boyle (born 1970) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for An Clochán Liath and Donegal. He is from Keadue. His father Tony Boyle Snr died in 2022 and his mother Kathleen died in 1997. From a family of seven, Tony Jnr has three sisters: Breda, Nicola and Karen. Tony Snr, Tony Jnr, Tony Snr's three brothers (John, Packie and Manus) and Tony Jnr's three brothers (Brendan, Danny and James) all played at the same time for Keadue Rovers. GAA GPA All Stars Awards
The Gaelic Athletic Association-Gaelic Players' Association All Stars Awards (often known simply as the All Stars) are awarded annually to the best player in each of the 15 playing positions in Gaelic football and hurling. Additionally, one player in each code is selected as Player of the Year. The awards were instituted in 1971.
