C.F. Monterrey (women)
C.F. Monterrey Femenil is a Mexican professional women's football club based in Guadalupe, Nuevo León, that competes in the Liga MX Femenil. The club has been the women's section of C.F. Monterrey since 2017. The team plays its home matches at Estadio BBVA. Monterrey Femenil is one of only four clubs that have been able to win the Liga MX Femenil title, obtaining the league title in two occasions. The club plays a local derby known as the Clásico Regiomontano femenil against city rivals Tigres UANL. History Founding and First League Tournament Club de Fútbol Monterrey Femenil was founded on 5 December 2016, the same day that Liga MX Femenil was announced. Estadio BBVA
The Estadio BBVA, nicknamed "El Gigante de Acero" (Spanish for "The Steel Giant"), formerly known as the Estadio BBVA Bancomer, is a stadium developed by FEMSA and C.F. Monterrey in Guadalupe, Greater Monterrey. The stadium replaced the Estadio Tecnológico as the home of Monterrey, ending 63 years of residency at that stadium. The project was met with controversy, stemming from multiple accusations of the construction as an apparent impediment to wildlife growth on a local scale by deforesting 24.5 hectares of forest neighboring a natural protected area that houses 106 animal species, including 8 endangered or protected species such as the yellow headed parrot. 2019–20 Liga MX Femenil Season
The 2019–20 Liga MX Femenil season was the third season of the top-flight women's football league in Mexico. The season was contested by nineteen teams the first semester and 18 the second, and all were the women's counterpart teams of the Liga MX. The season was split into two championships: the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura, each in an identical format and each contested by the same teams, unlike the two previous editions. Monterrey was crowned champion of the Apertura. However, due to league's suspension as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, no team was selected as champion of the Clausura. The Portland Thorns FC is an American professional women's soccer team based in Portland, Oregon. Established in 2012, the team began play in 2013 in the then-eight-team National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), which receives support from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
