Bạch Mã National Park
Bạch Mã National Park ( vi, Vườn quốc gia Bạch Mã) is a protected area in central Vietnam, near the city of Huế. It covers 220 km2 and comprises three zones: a strictly protected core area, an administrative area and a buffer zone. In 2004, the park was being considered for expansion in order to create a corridor from the border with Laos to the sea. The park can be accessed by foot, moped or with a park guide's car. History In 1932, the summit of Bạch Mã was selected by the French engineer Girard to become a hill station for the colonial administration of Hue. In the following years, a village including 139 villas and hotels was created. To accommodate holidaymakers and to avoid commuting on the steep, road to the next major town, there was a post office, a market, and a hospital. Bạch Long Vĩ Island
Bạch Long Vĩ island is located in the Gulf of Tonkin, about halfway between Haiphong (Vietnam) and Hainan Island ( China). The island is an offshore district of Haiphong city. Fishing comprises the majority of economic activity in the Gulf of Tonkin, and Bạch Long Vĩ is a major nursery and harvesting area for fish eggs. More than 50 species of commercial fish are abundant in the area (ADB 1999). Bạch Hổ Oil Field
The Bạch Hổ oil field (White Tiger oilfield) is a major oil field in the Cuu Long basin of the East Sea located offshore due east of the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. The field contains major reserves hosted within highly fractured granitic basement rocks. The Cuu Long basin is a rift zone developed during the Oligocene to Early Miocene. Trần Bạch Đằng
Trần Bạch Đằng (born Truong Gia Trieu) (1926 – April 16, 2007) was a key figure in planning the 1968 Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War, and was the leader of Communist forces in Saigon, the South Vietnamese capital, during that offensive. He was the leading Communist political officer in Saigon and a member of the National Liberation Front Central Committee. Đằng is the author of the novel Ván bài lật ngửa, which was about an intelligence figure in the Vietnam War - Colonel Phạm Ngọc Thảo, under the pen name Nguyễn Trương Thiên Lý. Biography His real name is Trương Gia Triều. He was born on July 15, 1926 in Hòa Thuận commune, Giồng Riềng District, Rạch Giá (now Kiên Giang province). Bạch Xuân Nguyên
Bạch Xuân Nguyên ( 白 春 元, died 1833) was an official of the Nguyễn dynasty of Vietnam. After the death of Lê Văn Duyệt, the viceroy of southern Vietnam in 1832, the emperor Minh Mạng, who was involved in a power struggle with Duyệt, appointed Nguyễn to investigate the viceroy's administration. Nguyễn led the investigation, and concluded that Duyet and his entourage had engaged in corruption and abuse of power. He ordered the posthumous humiliation of Duyệt. This resulted in the desecration of his tomb, the execution of sixteen relatives, and the arrests of his colleagues.McLeod, p. 29.
