The House of Bülow () is the name of an old German and Danish noble family of Mecklenburg origin, members of which have borne the title of Baron (''Freiherr''), Count (''Graf'') or Prince (''Fürst''). History The family traces its main line back to one knight ''Godofridus de Bulowe'', mentioned in a 1229 deed. He was named after the village of Bülow near Königsfeld, then part of the Bishopric of Ratzeburg. The family made great donations to nearby Rehna Abbey. As ''Bülow'' was also a word for oriole in the local dialect based on Wendish roots, the bird is depicted as a crest in the family's coat of arms. In Mecklenburg the family acquired around 110 estates, castles or villages from 1229 onwards, nine of which remained in its possession until the confiscations in communist East Germany in 1945. Karen Bulow
Karen Bulow (1899 – 1982) was a Danish-born Canadian textile artist. She arrived in Montreal in 1929 with a loom and a sewing machine. She began to sell handwoven goods, and as demand for her fabrics increased, she established Canada Homespuns. Canada Homespuns is believed to be Canada's first professional weaving studio; it employed as many as 70 weavers. From 1933 to 1949, she operated her own weaving school, and many of her pupils went on to become instructors themselves. Her products became iconic Canadian items, carried in high-end stores as well as Eaton's and Simpsons. Bulow also received commissions from various companies, including Trans-Canada Air Lines, Canadian National Railway, Canadian Pacific Railway and the Bank of Nova Scotia. Arrigo Boldrini (6 September 1915 – 22 January 2008) was an Italian politician and partisan, one of the most prominent figures of the Italian resistance movement, president of National Association of Italian Partisans for almost 60 years. Biography During the Resistance In 1943, Boldrini joined the then clandestine Italian Communist Party and has been one of the main promoters of the Resistance in Romagna. Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park
Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park is a Florida State Park in Flagler Beach, Florida. It is three miles west of Flagler Beach on CR 2001, south of SR 100, and contains the ruins of an ante-bellum plantation and its sugar mill, built of coquina, a fossiliferous sedimentary rock composed of shells. It was the largest plantation in East Florida, and was operated with the forced labor of enslaved Africans and African Americans. History The plantation was developed beginning in 1821 by Major Charles Wilhelm Bulow, who acquired 4,675 acres on a tidal creek (later Bulow Creek). He had 2,200 acres cleared by the labor of his enslaved workforce for the cultivation of commodity crops: indigo, cotton, rice, and sugarcane. At his death in 1823, his seventeen-year-old son, John Joachim Bulow inherited the property and managed it. Bulow Creek State Park is a Florida State Park located five miles (8 km) north of Ormond Beach. It is on Old Dixie Highway ( CR 4011), next to the Atlantic Ocean. The park is adjacent to Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park, and close to North Peninsula State Park, Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area and Tomoka State Park. Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe (4 December 1927 – 3 June 2004), often known simply as Torun, was one of Sweden's most important 20th century silversmiths and a master jeweller. She is the first female silversmith to have become internationally noted. Among her most important works are the watch "Vivianna," the bracelet "Mobius," and the earrings and necklaces "Dew Drop." Karl Wilhelm Paul von Bülow (24 March 1846 – 31 August 1921) was a German field marshal commanding the German 2nd Army during World War I from 1914 to 1915. Biography Born in Berlin to the distinguished Prussian military family von Bülow, originally from Mecklenburg, he enlisted in the Prussian Army and was assigned to the 2nd Guards regiment of infantry in 1864. He saw action during the Austro-Prussian War in 1866 and gained distinction at Königgrätz. Von Bülow served through the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 as a junior officer, winning the Iron Cross Second Class. A Captain of the German General Staff in 1877, von Bülow was promoted to Colonel and assigned to the 9th Guards Regiment in 1894.
