Byåsen Church
Byåsen Church ( no, Byåsen kirke, historically ''Hallset Church'') is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Trondheim municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the Byåsen neighborhood in the city of Trondheim. It is the church for the Byåsen parish which is part of the Heimdal og Byåsen prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The modern, concrete church was built in a hexagonal design in 1974 using plans drawn up by the architects Johan Arnstad and Ottar Heggenhougen. The church seats about 525 people. History The church was built in 1974 and it was consecrated on 1 December 1974 by the bishop Tord Godal. The church was originally called ''Hallset Church'', but the name was changed to better reflect the area that it served. The church building was extensively remodeled in 2004 by the Eggen Architects. Trondheim
Trondheim ( , , ; sma, Tråante), historically Kaupangen, Nidaros and Trondhjem (), is a city and municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. This list of churches in Nidaros is a list of the Church of Norway churches in the Diocese of Nidaros which covers all of Trøndelag county in Norway. The list is divided into several sections, one for each deanery in the diocese. Administratively within each deanery, the churches are divided by municipalities which have their own church council and then into parishes which have their own councils . Each parish may have one or more congregations in it. The municipality of Trondheim includes several deaneries within the municipality due to its large population. Historically, the diocese has had many deaneries, but the number of deaneries has been reduced in recent years. In 1995, the old Sør-Fosen prosti was merged with Orkdal prosti and on the same date the old ''Nord-Fosen prosti'' was renamed simply Fosen prosti. Havstein Church
Havstein Church ( no, Havstein kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Trondheim municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the Sverresborg area on the western side of the Nidelva river in the city of Trondheim. It is one of the churches for the Sverresborg parish which is part of the Heimdal og Byåsen prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The gray, stone church was built in a long church style in 1857 and designed by the architects Heinrich Ernst Schirmer and Wilhelm von Hanno. The church seats about 200 people. History Havstein cemetery was consecrated on 14 August 1854 to serve the western part of the city. Soon after, a church was built beside the cemetery. The church was consecrated on 30 November 1857. Tord Godal
Tord Godal (27 June 1909 – 27 February 2002) was a Norwegian theologian and bishop for the Diocese of Nidaros. He was decorated Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav in 1969. Godal was also a Freemason. Godal was born on 27 June 1909 in Stavanger, Norway. He was educated in theology, receiving his cand.theol. degree in 1932 and his dr.theol. degree in 1947. He served as a pastor in various positions in the Diocese of Oslo between 1934 and 1940. He was a chaplain in Trondheim from 1940 to 1948, resident chaplain at Bakke Church in Trondheim from 1948 to 1956, and Dean of the Oslo Cathedral from 1956 to 1960. He was bishop of the Diocese of Nidaros from 1960 to 1979, the longest serving bishop in Nidaros during the 20th century. He also served as praeses of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters from 1966 to 1973.
