Buôn Ma Thuột
Buôn Ma Thuột () (formerly Lac Giao) or sometimes Buôn Mê Thuột or Ban Mê Thuột, is the capital city of Đắk Lắk Province in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Its population was 420,000 in 2016, and grew to 502,170 by 2018. The city is the largest in Vietnam's Central Highlands region, and is famous as the regional "capital of coffee". Buôn Ma Thuột is served by Buôn Ma Thuột Airport. Geography The city is located at 12.6667° N 108.0500° E, right at the heart of the Central Highlands of Vietnam, 1300 km from Hanoi, 500 km from Da Nang, and 350 km from Ho Chi Minh City. Provincial city ( vi, Thành phố thuộc tỉnh), commonly known as City, a type of second tier subdivision of Vietnam is divided into 713 units along with urban district, district, municipal city, and town have equal status. The Sacred Heart Cathedral ( vi, Nhà Thờ Chình Toà Thánh Tâm Chúa Giêsu; french: Cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur), also called Buôn Ma Thuột Cathedral, is a religious building that is affiliated with the Catholic Church and is found in 2 Phan Chu Trinh in the city of Buon Ma Thuot, capital of Dak Lak province in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Construction of the church began in 1957 and was completed the following year with space for 1,200 faithful seated. The church follows the Roman or Latin rite and is the principal church of the Diocese of Ban Me Thuot (''Dioecesis Banmethuotensis'' or ''Giáo phận Ban Mê Thuột'') which was created in 1967 by Pope Paul VI by bull ''Qui Dei benignitate''. Battle Of Ban Me Thuot
The Battle of Ban Me Thuot was a decisive battle of the Vietnam War which led to the complete destruction of South Vietnam's II Corps Tactical Zone. The battle was part of a larger North Vietnamese military operation known as Campaign 275 to capture the Tay Nguyen region, known in the West as the Vietnamese Central Highlands. In March 1975 the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) 4th Corps staged a large-scale offensive, known as Campaign 275, with the aim of capturing the Central Highlands from the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) in order to kick-start the first stage of the 1975 spring offensive. Montagnard (Vietnam)
Montagnard () is an umbrella term for the various indigenous peoples of the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The French term () signifies a mountain dweller, and is a carryover from the French colonial period in Vietnam. In Vietnamese, they are known by the term người Thượng (), although this term can also be applied to other minority ethnic groups in Vietnam. In modern Vietnam, both terms are archaic, and indigenous ethnic groups are referred to as ''đồng bào'' () or ''người dân tộc thiểu số'' (). Earlier they were referred to pejoratively as the mọi.
