''Buy Muy Drugs'' is the debut studio album by Buy Muy Drugs, an American hip hop duo consisting of Denmark Vessey and Azarias. It was released through Ether Jung on September 15, 2017. It includes contributions from Open Mike Eagle, Yasiin Bey, Adad, Quelle Chris, Sassi Blaque, Big Tone, and Billy the Kid. Critical reception Marcus J. Moore of '' Pitchfork'' wrote, "The album reminds us to stay the course and ignore the nonsense, to find some kind of peace in a world that's become increasingly unstable." Alternative Hip Hop
Alternative hip hop (also known as alternative rap) is a subgenre of hip hop music that encompasses a wide range of styles that are not typically identified as mainstream. AllMusic defines it as comprising " hip hop groups that refuse to conform to any of the traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, bass, hardcore, and party rap. Instead, they blur genres drawing equally from funk and pop/rock, as well as jazz, soul, reggae, and even folk." Alternative hip hop developed in the late 1980s and experienced a degree of mainstream recognition during the early-to-mid 1990s. While some groups such as Arrested Development and The Fugees managed to achieve commercial success before breaking up, many alternative rap acts tend to be embraced by alternative rock listeners other than hip-hop or pop audiences. Denmark Vessey
Denmark Martin Vessey (born August 28, 1984) is an American rapper and record producer from Detroit, Michigan. He is also a member of hip hop duo Crown Nation with Quelle Chris. He was named after Denmark Vesey, leader of a slave revolt planned in 1822 in Charleston, South Carolina; it was interrupted before any actions took place. He is also a member of the west coast collective Dirty Science. Career Vessey grew up listening to Babyface, Guy, Canibus, Timbaland, and Jay-Z. Denmark and Quelle formed Crown Nation in 2006, and in 2008, the duo relocated from Detroit, Michigan to Chicago, Illinois and released the crew’s debut LP ''$lutbag Edition'' a year after. Creative Loafing is an Atlanta-based publisher of a monthly arts and culture newspaper/magazine. The company publishes a 60,000 circulation monthly publication which is distributed to in-town locations and neighborhoods on the first Thursday of each month. The company has historically been a part of the alternative weekly newspapers association in the United States. Creative Loafing began as a family-owned business in 1972 by Deborah and Chick Eason, expanding to other cities in the Southern United States in the late 1980s and 1990s. In 2007 it doubled its circulation with the purchase of the ''Chicago Reader'' and ''Washington City Paper''; the $40 million debt it incurred, along with an economic recession, forced the company into bankruptcy one year later. Michael W. Eagle II (born November 14, 1980), better known by his stage name Open Mike Eagle, is an American hip hop artist and comedian. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, he is now based in Los Angeles, California, where he is a member of the hip hop collective Project Blowed. He has released over 15 albums as a solo act and with his collaborative projects. He has been described as a student of Detroit hip hop.
