Butterglory
Butterglory was an American indie rock band from Lawrence, Kansas. Contemporaries of indie rock groups like Pavement and Archers of Loaf, the band released four albums with Merge Records. History Composed of Matt Suggs and Debby Vander Wall, the band began in 1992 with the release of ''Alexander Bends EP''. They later joined Merge Records and released their first album ''Crumble'' in 1994. This was followed by a collection of singles, ''Downed'' in 1995. Adding bassist Stephen Naron and a variety of other musicians, the group released the more developed ''Are You Building a Temple in Heaven?''. The group's final record, ''Rat Tat Tat'' was released on Merge Records in 1997. White Whale is an American indie rock band from Lawrence, Kansas, composed of former members of Butterglory, The Get Up Kids, and Thee Higher Burning Fire. They are signed to Merge Records and released their first full-length album WW1 on July 25, 2006. Background When Matt Suggs, former lead singer of Butterglory, began touring for his 2003 solo album, Amigo Row, he recruited former Higher Burning Fire drummer John Anderson, keyboardist and guitarist Dustin Kinsey (also of The New Amsterdams), and guitarist Zach Holland. Having played together off and on since 2000 they decided to form White Whale adding ex-Get Up Kids bassist Robert Pope. The band has been called both a side project and an indie super group. Neutral Milk Hotel
Neutral Milk Hotel was an American band formed in Ruston, Louisiana, by musician Jeff Mangum. They were active from 1989 to 1998, and again from 2013 to 2015. The band's music featured a deliberately low-quality sound, influenced by indie rock and psychedelic folk. Mangum wrote surreal and opaque lyrics that covered a wide range of topics, including love, spirituality, nostalgia, sex, and loneliness. He and the other band members played a variety of instruments, including non-traditional rock instruments like the singing saw, uilleann pipes, and Digital Horn. Neutral Milk Hotel began as one of Mangum's home recording projects. In 1994, he released the song " Everything Is" on Cher Doll Records. Rocketship is an American indie pop band formed in Sacramento, California, United States, in 1993. Led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Dustin Reske with bassist Verna Brock, keyboardist Heidi Barney and drummer Jim Rivas, the group released the single "Hey, Hey, Girl" in 1994 and the album ''A Certain Smile, a Certain Sadness'' in 1996.
