Butler County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,334. Its county seat is Allison. The county was organized in 1854 and named for General William O. Butler. History Butler County was formed on January 15, 1851, from open land. It was named after Kentucky native William Orlando Butler, a general and hero of the Mexican–American War, who ran as Vice President of the United States in 1848. Until 1854, the county was governed by other counties. Only at this time did it have enough inhabitants to establish its own local government. The first court proceedings were conducted in a small log cabin of a settler. In 1858, the first courthouse was completed in Clarksville. After it was sold shortly thereafter to the local school district, it was used as a schoolhouse from 1863 until 1903. Butler County Courthouse (Iowa)
The Butler County Courthouse is located at 428 Sixth Street in Allison, Iowa, United States. It opened in 1975 and replaced a structure originally measuring completed in 1881 when the county seat relocated from Clarksville to Allison. The 1881 courthouse was enlarged in 1903 and again in 1937. Beginning in the 1950s, county officials realized the need for a new building and requested funding through ballot proposals in 1956, 1957, and 1970. Voters rejected these proposals forcing officials to cancel court hearings and other functions due to insufficient heat and overloaded electrical wiring and rent space in other buildings. Their fourth request for funding in 1973 was successful and officials received 13 bids to construct a new courthouse. Hardin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,878. The county seat is Eldora. The county was named in honor of Col. John J. Hardin, of Illinois, who was killed in the Mexican–American War. History Hardin County was formed in 1851. It was named after Colonel John J. Hardin, who died in the Mexican–American War. In its history the county has had three courthouses. The first was a small wood-framed building, which burned down in the 1850s. The county was named for the southern Indian Nation whose chief was ''Bradford''. History Chickasaw County was founded in January 1851. Floyd County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,627. The county seat is Charles City. History Floyd County was established in 1854 and was named for Sergeant Charles Floyd of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, who died in 1804 near what is now Sioux City, Iowa, and who was the only member to die on the Expedition. The first school in the county was taught at Nora Springs in 1854. The second was opened at Charles City, the third at Floyd.
