Business New Brunswick
The Department of Economic Development is a department in the Government of New Brunswick. It is charged with stimulating economic prosperity and global competitiveness in the province. Created in 1944 during war time as the Department of Industry and Reconstruction, the Department has since had several name changes and has been known as the Department of Industry, Department of Economic Growth, and Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Culture. The department was renamed Business New Brunswick on March 23, 2000 when Premier Bernard Lord restructured the New Brunswick Cabinet. It was created by subdividing the then Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Culture. It was enlarged on October 9, 2001 when it absorbed the Department of Investment and Exports which has also been originally created from Economic Development, Tourism and Culture. Gerald Merrithew
Gerald Stairs "Gerry" Merrithew (September 23, 1931 – September 5, 2004), born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, was an educator, provincial and federal politician, and statesman. Merrithew graduated from the New Brunswick Teachers' College, then obtained his BA and B.Ed degrees from the University of New Brunswick. With a lifelong interest in the Canadian Forces, he became an Officer Cadet and rose to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Norman Betts
Norman M. Betts (born April 1, 1954 in Doaktown, New Brunswick) is a Chartered Accountant, university professor, and former provincial politician. Norman Betts graduated from the University of New Brunswick (UNB) in 1978 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and went to work for a firm of chartered accountants in Fredericton, New Brunswick with whom he remained associated until 1988. In 1991, he obtained a PhD in Management (accounting and finance) from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. L. Joan MacAlpine-Stiles (known earlier in her career as Joan MacAlpine) is a politician in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. She served as Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Moncton West from 1999 until 2010. She is the wife of fellow MLA Wally Stiles; they were married while in office in 2005. Peter Mesheau
Peter Mesheau (born in Sackville, New Brunswick) is a politician in New Brunswick, Canada. He represented the electoral district of Tantramar in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1997 to 2006. Mesheau was elected in a tight three-way race to represent Tantramar in a by-election in 1997 to replace Marilyn Trenholme Counsell who had resigned to become Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick. Mesheau, a Progressive Conservative received 34.1% of the vote to 33.2% for Liberal candidate Ross Monk to 30.2% for New Democrat Heather Patterson. The leader of the Confederation of Regions Party, Greg Hargrove, was running as a parachute candidate and finished a distant fourth and last place with 2.5%. Roly MacIntyre
Roly MacIntyre (born December 31, 1943) is a former civil servant and politician in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in 1995 and re-elected in 2003 and 2006 after having been defeated in 1999. MacIntyre was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. He was district manager for Niagara Finance and Niagara Mortgage & Loan from 1964 to 1971. MacIntyre married Phyllis Coady. In 1971, he joined the federal Unemployment Insurance Commission, moving to Saint John, New Brunswick in 1976 after he became regional manager. Ray Frenette
Joseph Raymond Frenette (April 16, 1935 – July 13, 2018) was a Canadian politician in New Brunswick. He was a Liberal representative for the riding of Moncton East in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1974 until 1998 when he retired after a short term as the 28th premier of New Brunswick. The son of Berthilde Pitre and Samuel Frenette, before his election to the legislature, he was a Councillor for the village of Lewisville and, after Lewisville was amalgamated with the city of Moncton, he was a Moncton city Councillor. He twice ran for leader of the New Brunswick Liberals. He lost in 1982 to Doug Young, and in 1985 to Frank McKenna. Camille Henri Thériault (born February 25, 1955) served as the 29th premier of New Brunswick from 1998 to 1999. Early life The son of Joséphine Martin and Norbert Thériault, a former provincial cabinet minister and Canadian Senator, Camille Thériault was born in Baie-Sainte-Anne, New Brunswick, and graduated from École Régionale de Baie Sainte-Anne. Denis Losier (born June 14, 1952) is a businessman, economist and former public servant and politician. He was appointed to the Security Intelligence Review Committee on September 3, 2008 and by virtue of that position has been sworn in as a member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada. Educated at the University of Moncton and the University of Western Ontario as an economist, Losier worked for the federal Ministry for Regional Industrial Expansion in the 1970s.
