Bush River (South Carolina)
The Bush River is a tributary of the Saluda River, 30 mi (48 km) long, in the Piedmont region of western South Carolina in the United States. Via the Saluda and Congaree Rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Santee River, which flows to the Atlantic Ocean. According to the Geographic Names Information System, it has also been known as "Bush Creek." The United States Board on Geographic Names settled on "Bush River" as the stream's name in 1973. Course The Bush River rises in Laurens County, just south of the town of Clinton, and flows generally southeastwardly into Newberry County, past Joanna. It joins into the Saluda River about 11 mi (17 km) south of Newberry as part of Lake Murray, which is formed on the Saluda by Saluda Dam. Clinton, South Carolina
Clinton is a city in Laurens County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 8,490 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville– Mauldin– Easley Metropolitan Statistical Area. Clinton is the home of Presbyterian College. History The Cherokee Indians were Clinton's original inhabitants. The first settler to inhabit the area was John Duncan, a native of Aberdeen, Scotland, who arrived in 1752 from Pennsylvania and settled along a creek between the present-day towns of Clinton and Whitmire. Scots-Irish immigrants from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia became the predominant settlers in the area in the two decades before the American Revolutionary War and took active part in a Revolutionary War battle in 1780 at nearby Musgrove Mill. Lake Murray (South Carolina)
Lake Murray is a reservoir in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It is approximately in size, and has roughly of shoreline. It was impounded in the late 1920s to provide hydroelectric power to the state of South Carolina. Newberry is a city in Newberry County, South Carolina, United States, in the Piedmont northwest of Columbia. The charter was adopted in 1894. The population was 10,277 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Newberry County; at one time it was called Newberry Courthouse. Newberry became a city in 1976, but did not report the change to the Census Bureau for more than twenty-five years. As a result, the city was listed as a town in the 2000 census. Joanna, South Carolina
Joanna is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Laurens County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,539 at the 2010 census, down from 1,609 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Greenville– Mauldin– Easley Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The community was first settled in the 1760s. By the 1850s, the town was known as "Martin's Depot", in honor of a local planter, Martin Kinard, who had helped bring the Laurens Railroad through. On April 30, 1865, Confederate President Jefferson Davis and his cabinet passed through the town on their flight from Richmond and spent the night at the Lafayette Young house, to the southwest.
