Bus Australia was an Australian interstate coach operator formed in 1985 when Volvo Trucks dealer Max Winkless from Perth linked Across Australia Coachlines with Briscoe's Coachlines and Quest Tours of Adelaide, and Perth based Parlorcars Group. In 1989 the east coast-based Intertour business was purchased with 27 coaches. In 1993 Bus Australia merged with Greyhound Australia and Ansett Pioneer to form Greyhound Pioneer Australia. The Futura is a range of coaches manufactured by VDL Bus & Coach at Valkenswaard in the Netherlands since 1982. A derivative of the Futura produced from 1999-2011 was the Magiq. The model was built for many years by the former BOVA company as the ''Bova Futura'', and after that business was taken over by the VDL Groep as the ''VDL Bova Futura''. In the autumn of 2010 a significantly facelifted version was introduced as the ''VDL Futura'' (sometimes referred to as the Futura 2). Austral was an Australian bus manufacturer in Geebung, Brisbane. History Austral was originally formed as Athol Hedges. It was later renamed Domino Hedges, then Domino before becoming Austral in 1982 when purchased by the Australian Manufacturing Group. It originally bodied buses diversifying into integral buses and coaches (body and chassis) in the 1970s. In December 1988 Austral was sold to JRA Limited who also owned Denning, Austral's largest rival in the coach market. Both continued to operate separately until 1990 when the Denning plant in Acacia Ridge was closed and production transferred to the Austral factory. From 1992 the combined business was rebranded as Austral Denning. Founded in 1905 as the AA Withers Bus Company, the company maintained continuous operation under a variety of corporate monikers until its 1993 merger into Greyhound Pioneer Australia.
