Burraneer is a bayside suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Burraneer is 26 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. Burraneer sits on the peninsula of Burraneer Point, on the north shore of the Port Hacking estuary. Burraneer Bay forms the western border and Gunnamatta Bay the eastern border. Woolooware is the only adjacent suburb. Cronulla is located across Gunnamatta Bay. The suburbs of Dolans Bay, Port Hacking and Caringbah South are located across Burraneer Bay. The villages of Maianbar and Bundeena are located on the opposite bank of Port Hacking. Burraneer is a mostly residential suburb comprising predominantly large family homes with some offering expansive water views of the Port Hacking. Gunnamatta Bay
The Gunnamatta Bay is a small bay in southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Gunnamatta Bay is located off the Port Hacking estuary, in the Sutherland Shire. The foreshore is a natural boundary for the suburbs of Cronulla to the east, Woolooware to the north and Burraneer to the west. Transport Cronulla and National Park Ferry Cruises operate a ferry service from the wharf on Gunnamatta Bay, which provides a link between Cronulla and Bundeena across Port Hacking, on the edge of the Royal National Park. Parks Gunnamatta Park and Darook Park are located on its eastern foreshore. Tonkin Oval on the northern foreshore features a large cricket oval and is also used for baseball. Cronulla Public School is located nearby. Gunnamatta park holds a valuable remnant of bushland canopy and a more limited but equally valuable understorey remnant. Woolooware Railway Station
Woolooware railway station is located on the Cronulla line, serving the Sydney suburb of Woolooware. It is served by Sydney Trains T4 line services. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. Sutherland is a suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Sutherland is located 26 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district and is the administrative centre for the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. History There are two theories for the origin of the Sutherland name: * It is suggested that the name was taken from able seaman Forby Sutherland, who died on Captain Cook's ''Endeavour'' voyage. Sutherland Point at Kurnell is named after him, but there's no direct connection of him to the Sutherland Shire district. * Thomas Mitchell as surveyor general in 1835 named the first parish south of the Georges River as the " Parish of Southerland" (South with an "o"). But it appeared in a later government gazette spelt Sutherland, losing the significance of the name. Richard Hill (New South Wales Politician)
Richard Hill (22 September 1810 – 19 August 1895) was an Australian politician. He was born in Parramatta to William Hill and Mary Johnson, both emancipated convicts. He was a carpenter's apprentice and by the late 1820s was managing William Wentworth's Vaucluse estate. He later became a butcher and also owned an orchard at Lane Cove. In 1848 he acquired 76,000 acres on the Liverpool Plains. In 1868 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for Canterbury, where he remained until his defeat in 1877. In 1880 he was appointed to the New South Wales Legislative Council. On 27 January 1832 he married Henrietta Cox, the sister of W. C. Wentworth's wife; they had eleven children. A close supporter of Henry Parkes, he was a founding member of the Aborigines Protection Board in 1883. Hill died in Sydney in 1895. Aboriginal Australians
