Burnell-Nugent is a compound surname formed from combining Burnell and Nugent, arising from the 1905 marriage of Frank Burnell-Nugent (né Nugent) and Ellen Burnell. Frank Burnell-Nugent was the son of Albert Llewellyn Nugent, 3rd Baron Nugent, whose father, Walter, had been created a Baron of Austria in 1859. James Burnell-Nugent
Admiral Sir James Michael Burnell-Nugent, (born 20 November 1949) is a retired Royal Navy officer who served as Commander-in-Chief Fleet from 2005 to 2007. Early life and education Burnell-Nugent was educated at Stowe School, then an all-boys private school in Buckinghamshire.''Who's Who 2010'', A & C Black, 2010, He studied mathematics at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree: as per tradition, his BA was later promoted to a Master of Arts (MA Cantab) degree. Frank Burnell-Nugent
Brigadier-General Frank Henry Burnell-Nugent, (5 September 1880 – 12 March 1942), born Frank Henry Nugent , was a British Army officer and an English first-class cricketer. Family Frank Nugent was the son of Albert Llewellyn Nugent, 3rd Baron Nugent, and Elizabeth Baltazzi. He attended Winchester College and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He married Ellen Burnell in 1905, and changed his surname to Burnell-Nugent in 1916. He and his wife had one child, a son. Military career Nugent was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort's Own) on 11 November 1899, and promoted to a lieutenant (supernumerary) on 18 December 1900. He received a regular commission as a lieutenant in the 3rd battalion of his regiment in August 1902. He fought in the Boer War, where he was wounded. Earl Of Westmeath
Earl of Westmeath is a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created in 1621 for Richard Nugent, Baron Delvin. During the Tudor era the loyalty of the Nugent family was often in question, and Richard's father, the sixth Baron, died in prison while awaiting trial for treason, a crime for which other members of the family had already been condemned. Richard himself when young was suspected of plotting rebellion and was imprisoned, but in later life, he was a staunch supporter of the Crown, which rewarded him richly for his loyalty. The fifth Earl was a Major-General in the British Army. The sixth Earl was sworn of the Irish Privy Council in 1758.
