Burlington (provincial Electoral District)
Burlington is a provincial electoral district in southwestern Ontario, Canada. It elects one member to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. It was created in 1999 from parts of Burlington South, Halton Centre, and a small part of South Oakville. When the riding was created, it included the city of Burlington east of a line following the Queen Elizabeth Way to Highway 403 to King Road and south of a line following Dundas Street to the 403 to Upper Middle Road to Walkers Line. In 2007, the boundaries were altered so that the riding included all of Burlington south of a line following Dundas Street to Guelph Line to Upper Middle Road to Walker Line to the QEW. The Regional Municipality of Halton, or Halton Region, is a regional municipality in Ontario, Canada, located in the Golden Horseshoe of Southern Ontario. It comprises the city of Burlington and the towns of Oakville, Milton, and Halton Hills. Policing in the Region is provided by the Halton Regional Police Service. The regional council's headquarters are located in Oakville. Burlington and Oakville are largely urban and suburban, while the towns of Milton and Halton Hills are more rural. Halton is part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), although it is the only regional municipality in the GTA that is not situated directly adjacent to Toronto’s city proper. However, the region is split between the census metropolitan areas (CMAs) of Toronto and Hamilton. Burlington is part of the Hamilton CMA, while the rest of the region is part of the Toronto CMA. Jane McKenna
Jane McKenna (born October 22, 1959) is a politician in Ontario, Canada. She is a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2011 to 2014 who represented the riding of Burlington and subsequently again from 2018 to 2022. McKenna is currently the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Labour; Chair of the Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly; and Member of the Standing Committee on Estimates. Background McKenna is a lifetime resident of Burlington, Ontario. She worked for an advertising firm and founded her own company called Rainmaker Consulting. Dalton McGuinty
Dalton James Patrick McGuinty Jr. (born July 19, 1955) is a former Canadian politician who served as the 24th premier of Ontario from 2003 to 2013. He was the first Liberal leader to win two majority governments since Mitchell Hepburn nearly 70 years earlier. In 2011, he became the first Liberal premier to secure a third consecutive term since Oliver Mowat after his party was re-elected in that year's provincial election. McGuinty was born in Ottawa. He studied science at university, but ended up taking a law degree and practiced law in Ottawa. His father served as a Liberal member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) from 1987 until his death in 1990. A provincial election was called for later that year and McGuinty successfully ran in his father's seat, though the incumbent Liberal government was defeated.
