Patuakhali () is a district in South-central Bangladesh in the Barisal Division. This district is the main entrance for the beach of Kuakata. Geography It is adjacent to the Bay of Bengal. Barguna District
Barguna ( bn, বরগুনা ''Borguna'') is a district in the Barisal Division, division of Barisal, Bangladesh. It is situated in the southern part of Bangladesh. Barguna subdivision was established in 1969 and promoted to district on 28 February 1984. History Barguna district was in the Sundarbans, Sundarban area. In the evolution of time, people started clearing the forest by cutting down the trees and started to live here. Wood merchants used to come here to collect woods from the forest. Etymology There is not enough strong proof of naming the district. Some historians say that timber traders of the northern region came here to buy timbers and waited for the favoring flow (Baro - Gone) to overcome and from there the name "Baro-Gana" was derived. MAHBUR RAHMAN is the director general of the board. History In 1954 to 1956 there were a series of consecutive floods in East Pakistan. J A Crug, US state department official lead a mission to investigate and recommend solutions. On their recommendation East Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority was formed for water management. After the Independence of Bangladesh, the authority was split into Bangladesh Water Development Board and Bangladesh Power Development Board. It is under the Ministry of Water Resources. It manages irrigation canals and prevent river erosion.
