''Buoyancy'' is a 2019 Australian drama film directed by Rodd Rathjen. It was selected as the Australian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. Plot Inspired by actual events, a 14-year-old Cambodian boy becomes a victim of human trafficking when he is enslaved on a Thai fishing trawler. Rod Rathjen is an Australian film director. Life He was born in Colbinabbin and graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2010. Rodd is a graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts. His final year film 'Thirst' won 'Best Directing' at the College's screening night. Rodd has continued to work as a director, most notably his short film ''Tau Seru'' (2013) was selected to screen at Cannes as part of Critic's Week and won awards including Best Australian Short Film at the Melbourne International Film Festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is an annual film festival held over three weeks in Melbourne, Australia. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The International Feature Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The category was previously called the Best Foreign Language Film, but this was changed in April 2019 to Best International Feature Film, after the Academy deemed the word "Foreign" to be outdated.
