Buoy (horse)
Buoy (7 April 1970 – 1984) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Unraced as a two-year-old, he proved himself one of the best middle-distance colts of his generation in 1973 when he won the Predominate Stakes and the Great Voltigeur Stakes and finished placed in both the Irish Derby and the St Leger. He was even better as a four-year-old, winning the Yorkshire Cup before beating the outstanding French filly Dahlia in the Coronation Cup and taking the Princess of Wales's Stakes. His career was ended by injury in August 1974 and he was exported to stand as a breeding stallion where he had limited success as a sire of winners. Background Buoy was a "big, robust, long-striding" chestnut horse with three white socks and a white star and snip bred by his owner Richard Dunbavin "Dick" Hollingsworth at his Arches Hall Stud in Hertfordshire. He was sired by Aureole who won the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in the ownership of Queen Elizabeth II in 1954: Au ...

Buoy (mascot)
Buoy is the official mascot for the Seattle Kraken, a National Hockey League (NHL) team based in Seattle. History The process of finding a mascot took two years, starting around the time the team unveiled their name in July 2020. Because a kraken is a mythical being whose complete appearance is unknown, the team chose not to use it as a mascot. The team also opted not to have an octopus mascot, to avoid redundancy with Al the Octopus, mascot of the Detroit Red Wings. In December 2021, the Kraken announced a non-fungible token (NFT) sale; 32 tokens allowed their owners to see "mysterious hints of the Kraken mascot", with the expectation that the NFT would show the complete mascot upon the official announcement. Critics said that the promotion conflicted with the team's sustainability goals, due to the high energy costs associated with NFTs. During the 2021–22 season, in the absence of an official mascot, the Kraken promoted a "team dog" named Davy Jones. The dog, a four-month ...

Buoy Anti-tank Obstacle
Buoy is a British type of anti-tank obstacle used to block roads intended to impede enemy movement. Buoys were widely deployed during the invasion crisis of 1940–1941. Each buoy was a truncated cone of concrete with a rounded bottom, about high, and with a diameter hole through the axis. They would be placed in at least five rows across a roadway. Buoys were intended as an alternative to a simple cylinder of concrete. The advantage of buoy was that it could be used to block or unblock a road quickly. Passing a rod or crossbar through a pair of buoys formed a wheeled axle that could easily be rolled into place; when the axle was removed the buoys could be separated and stood up. Although easily knocked over, the conical shapes could not be rolled very far, they would move unpredictably and out of the field of view of a tank driver, making it difficult to avoid them.War Office. Military Training Pamphlet No 30, Part III: Obstacles. 8 October 1940, p. 15 They were eventually ...
