Leer, Lower Saxony
Leer is a town in the district of Leer, in the northwestern part of Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated on the river Leda, a tributary of the river Ems, near the border with the Netherlands. With 34,958 inhabitants (2021), it is the third-largest city in East Frisia after Emden and Aurich. It has a railway and autobahn connection to Groningen, Netherlands, Emden, Bremen and the South ( Rheine and the Ruhrpott industrial region). Zwischenahner Meer
is a lake in Ammerland, Lower Saxony, Germany. It is at an elevation of approximately 5 meters, and has a surface area of 5.5 km2. The town of Bad Zwischenahn is located on the southern end of the lake, Rostrup on the western end, and Dreibergen on the northern end. It is the third largest lake in Lower Saxony. The lake is around 6 meters deep at its deepest point, and has an average depth of 3 meters. It emerged 11,000 years ago, after the collapse of a salt dome. The Zwischenahner Meer is navigable, and regular ferry services began in 1874. It has also been home to the so-called ''Weiße Flotte'' (White Fleet) since 1987. The three ships run on regularly scheduled routes between the different landing piers along the lakeside. The piers are located in Bad Zwischenahn, Rostrup, and Dreibergen. Bad Zwischenahn
Bad Zwischenahn (Low German: ''Twüschenahn'') is a town and a municipality in the low-lying Ammerland district, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is on Zwischenahner Meer, approximately 15 km northwest of Oldenburg and about 70 km south of the North Sea coast. History During the Nazi era, Bad Zwischenahn was one of the Nazi strongholds in Ammerland and the whole of Emsland. During World War II Bad Zwischenahn was home to the largest Luftwaffe airbase in northern Germany, the 'Adlerhorst' military airport in Rostrup (Bad Zwischenahn). From here, Luftwaffe pilots flew their attacks on the Netherlands and Great Britain from May 10, 1940. Delmenhorst (; Northern Low Saxon: ''Demost'') is an urban district (''Kreisfreie Stadt'') in Lower Saxony, Germany.
