''Bumblebee'' (stylized as ''BumbleBee'' and sometimes marketed as ''Transformers: Bumblebee'') is a 2018 science fiction action film based on the ''Transformers'' toy line character of the same name. The film is the sixth installment in the ''Transformers'' film series. Developed as a spin-off and prequel, it was later declared a reboot of the film series. The film is directed by Travis Knight and written by Christina Hodson. Travis Andrew Knight (born September 13, 1973) is an American animator, producer, director, and former rapper who has worked as the lead animator and current CEO for the stop-motion animation studio Laika, and directed the films ''Kubo and the Two Strings'' (2016) and ''Bumblebee'' (2018). Bumblebee is a fictional robot character appearing in the many continuities in the ''Transformers'' franchise. The character is a member of the Autobots, a group of sentient self-configuring modular extraterrestrial robotic lifeforms. In the original toy line and animated series, Bumblebee is a small yellow Volkswagen Beetle. In the live action movies, he has appeared as vehicles inspired by the Chevrolet American muscle cars – with the live-action film versions being a yellow Camaro with black racing stripes. The California Film Commission (CFC) was founded in 1985 by then California Governor George Deukmejian to act in an economic development capacity for the state.
