Bumble (Oliver Twist)
Mr. Bumble is a fictional character and minor antagonist in the 1838 novel ''Oliver Twist'' by Charles Dickens. Character When the story was first serialised in ''Bentley's Miscellany'' in 1837 Mr. Bumble is the cruel and self-important beadle – a minor parish official – who oversees the parish workhouse and orphanage of Mudfog, a country town more than from London where the orphaned Oliver Twist is brought up. Joseph Clayton Clarke
Joseph Clayton Clark (1857— 8 August 1937), who worked under the pseudonym "Kyd", was a British artist best known for his illustrations of characters from the novels of Charles Dickens. Mr Sowerberry is a fictional character who appears as a supporting antagonist in Charles Dickens' 1838 novel ''Oliver Twist''. He is an undertaker and coffin maker who owns and operates a small dark shop in a small town some from London. Harry L. Rattenberry (December 14, 1857 – December 9, 1925) was an American actor. He appeared in more than 120 films between 1913 and 1925. He was born in Sacramento, California and died in Los Angeles, California. His parents were William Henry Rattenberry and Mary Ann Broomhead, a former wife of notable Mormon missionary Cyrus H. ''Oliver Twist'' is a lost 1916 silent film drama produced by Jesse Lasky and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It was directed by James Young. It is based on the famous 1838 novel, ''Oliver Twist'', by Charles Dickens and the 1912 Broadway stage version of the novel. Marie Doro had played ''Oliver'' on Broadway in 1912 to much acclaim and was brought in by Lasky to reprise her role in this film. In fact, the main reason this film was made was to showcase Doro rather than Dickens. In the play, the parts of Nancy, Fagin and Bill Sykes were played by Constance Collier, Nat C. Goodwin and Lyn Harding respectively. Elsie Jane Wilson who had a supporting part in the play is Nancy in the film. Wilson and Doro are the only players from the play to appear in this film. Stuart Holmes (born Joseph Liebchen; March 10, 1884 – December 29, 1971) was an American actor and sculptor whose career spanned seven decades. He appeared in almost 450 films between 1909 and 1964, sometimes credited as Stewart Holmes. Biography Holmes was born Joseph Liebchen on March 10, 1884, in Chicago, Illinois, where he was educated.
