Bulleen ( ) is an eastern suburb in Melbourne, Australia, 13 km north-east of the Melbourne central business district, located within the City of Manningham local government area. Bulleen recorded a population of 11,219 at the 2021 census. Etymology The name ''Bulleen'' originates from the nearby Bolin Bolin Billabong. ''Buln-Buln'' translates to lyrebird, which is generally accepted to be the suburb's name meaning. Geography Climate Temperatures in Bulleen are known to fluctuate. During the 2009 southeastern Australia heat wave the suburb was reportedly around one degree cooler (at 43 °C) than in the city, but during a heat wave just the next month it peaked at a record 49 °C, on 7 February – compared to 46 °C in the city. Bulleen Road
Bulleen Road is a 4 kilometre long road in north-eastern Melbourne, Australia serving the suburbs of Bulleen and Balwyn North, which can be seen as an alternative thoroughfare between Heidelberg and Doncaster via the Eastern Freeway. Since the opening of EastLink the road has seen significantly larger volumes of traffic, particularly between the Eastern Freeway and Manningham Road due to the traffic between the Eastern Freeway and the Metropolitan Ring Road. Route Bulleen Road starts at the intersection with Templestowe Road and Bridge Street in Bulleen and runs south as a four-lane, single-carriageway road, nearly immediately crossing Manningham Road, eventually widening to a four-lane, dual-carriageway road a short distance south. The City of Manningham is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne and is divided into 12 suburbs, with the largest being Doncaster and Doncaster East. It comprises an area of 113 square kilometres and had a population of 125,508 in June 2018. The electoral district of Bulleen is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It covers an area of in eastern Melbourne, including the suburbs of Bulleen, Doncaster, Templestowe Lower, and part of Templestowe. It lies within the Eastern Metropolitan Region of the upper house, the Legislative Council. Bulleen was created in 1985, and has been a safe seat for the Liberal Party since its inception. It was won at its first election by David Perrin, the outgoing secretary of the Victorian Dairy Industry Authority. Perrin served four terms as member for the seat, and was an outspoken conservative backbencher during the Kennett government, opposing Kennett on drug reform, euthanasia, and gay and lesbian anti-discrimination laws. Doncaster () is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 16 km north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Manningham local government area. Doncaster recorded a population of 25,020 at the 2021 census. The suburb, which is situated on 8.9 km2 of land, around the top of the 120 m high Doncaster Hill. Marcellin College is a Catholic secondary boys' college in Bulleen, Victoria, Australia. The school was founded in 1950 by the Marist Brothers originally in Canterbury Road, Camberwell, Victoria. A senior school campus was opened in Bulleen for years 9 to 12 with the Canterbury campus catering for years 4 to 8. With the school population growing the Junior School in Camberwell stopped accepting students in grades 4, 5 and 6 and took only Years 7 and 8.
