Bull Verweij
Hendrik "Bull" Verweij (12 September 1909 – 19 February 2010) was one of the founders of the Dutch offshore radio station Radio Veronica, and was president of the station from its founding in 1959 until 1975. He was born in Hilversum. After Veronica was forced to stop, one of the DJs of the station, , formed the Veronica Omroep Organisatie: a legal entity that grew out from a candidate broadcasting organisation to the largest broadcaster in the country. The Veronica brothers Bull is one of the three initial brothers that formed together the management (and ownership) of the offshore radio station Veronica. From 1960 the offshore radio station transmits from a former German lightvessel the "Borkum Riff" and in 1964 the three brothers decide to buy a larger trawler that was destined for being scrapped: the ''Norderney''. MV Norderney
The MV Nordeney was from November, 1964 until 31 August 1974 the transmission ship for offshore radio station Radio Veronica.Website University GroningeYears of Veronica visited 29 June 2012 History The Norderney was built in 1949 as the ''MV HH 294 Paul J Müller'' in Hamburg-Finkenwerder. This 50 metre long trawler was in service as fishing-vessel in the waters around Island from 1950 until 1956 and in July of that year it was sold to the ''Niedersächsische Hochseefischerei GmbH.'' (Lower Saxony deepsea fishing Ltd.) and was re-christened as ''NC 420 Norderney'' In 1960 the then 11-year-old vessel was sold to a Dutch company for scrapping. Bull Verwey (1971)
A bull is an intact (i.e., not castrated) adult male of the species ''Bos taurus'' (cattle). More muscular and aggressive than the females of the same species (i.e., cows), bulls have long been an important symbol in many religions, including for sacrifices. Loosdrecht
Loosdrecht () is a town in the municipality of Wijdemeren, North Holland, the Netherlands, with a population of about 8,600 inhabitants. Loosdrecht consists of two small villages: Nieuw-Loosdrecht and Oud-Loosdrecht. Nieuw Loosdrecht covers a small area densely populated; Oud-Loosdrecht consists mainly of lakeside villas. Until 2002 Loosdrecht was a separate municipality in the province of Utrecht, covering the villages of Oud-Loosdrecht and Nieuw-Loosdrecht, and the hamlets of Breukeleveen and Muyeveld. Radio North Sea International (RNI; ; ) was a European offshore radio station run by the Swiss firm Mebo Telecommunications, jointly owned by Swiss engineer Edwin Bollier and his business partner, Erwin Meister.. Mebo II
The Mebo II was originally the Dutch freighter, "Silvretta", built in 1948 by De Groot en van Vliet, Slikkerveer. It had a weight of 630 tons and a length of 186 feet. In 1969, it was bought by Edwin Bollier and Erwin Meister, renamed and converted into an offshore radio station at the same shipyard where it had been built. It was famous for its dramatic art nouveau color scheme. From 1970–74, it broadcast as Radio Nordsee International (RNI) from international waters four miles off Scheveningen, the Netherlands. Transmissions were on AM medium wave (max105kW), shortwave (2x10kW) and FM (1 kW). Following RNI's closure due to the Dutch Marine Offences Act, it was announced that the ship would move to Italy to broadcast as that country's first offshore radio station.
