Orthalicidae
Orthalicidae (orthalicid land snails) are a family of tropical air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks are classified in the subfamily Orthalicoidea of the order Stylommatophora. MolluscaBase eds. (2021). MolluscaBase. Orthalicidae Martens, 1860. Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at: http://marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=870044 on 2021-02-19 They are medium-sized to large snails, from about 3 cm (about 1.2 inches) to 9 cm (about 3.5 inches) in shell length Taxonomy In former times, this family was often known as the Bulimulidae, but this term may also denote what today is the subfamily Bulimulinae. The subfamily Bulimulinae replaces the former family Bulimulidae Crosse & P. Fischer, 1873. 2005 taxonomy The Orthalicidae belong to the Orthalicoidea, a superfamily in the order Sigmurethra. Like other stylommatophorans, the Sigmurethra belong to the suborder Helicina. Among the three subfamilies of Or ...

Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at: http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=870047 on 2021-02-05 Distribution The Orthalicoidea is a dominant faunal element in the Neotropics, but also has a number of genera with a Gondwanan distribution. Taxonomy 2005 taxonomy This taxonomy, as accepted by Bouchet & Rocroi, was based on the study by Nordsieck, published in 1986, and the classification as formulated by Schileyko in 1999. However Bouchet & Rocroi diverged from this classification in uniting the families Bulimulidae and Orthalacidae. They also considered the family Placostylidae as a distinct family from Orthalicidae, and the family Coelociontidae a distinct family from Urocoptidae. However, the position of the families M ...

Placostylidae
Bothriembryontidae is a family of air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Orthalicoidea. Taxonomy This family has been named Placostylidae and had no subfamilies (according to the taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). Breure et al. (2010) moved ''Prestonella'' and ''Bothriembryon'' to Placostylidae. Breure & Romero (2012) confirmed previous results from 2010 and they renamed Placostylidae to Bothriembryontidae. * subfamily Bothriembryontinae Iredale, 1937 * subfamily Placostylinae Pilsbry, 1946 - for species from New Zealand and Melanesia Prestonellinae was formally described as a new subfamily within Bothriembryontidae in 2016.
