Bulimba Reach
Bulimba Reach is a reach of the Brisbane River in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Geography Bulimba Reach flows from south (upstream) to north (downstream). The suburbs of Hawthorne and Bulimba are on its eastern bank. The suburbs of New Farm, Teneriffe and Newstead lie to the west. Breakfast Creek joins the Brisbane River from the north-east at the northern end of Bulimba Reach. History The Bulimba Branch railway line was built in 1897 to support the wharves and industries located on the western bank of the Bulimba Reach in Newstead, Teneriffe and New Farm. Newstead Air Raid Shelter is a heritage-listed former air raid shelter at Commercial Road, Teneriffe, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The house was built in 1892 for Thomas Welsby (1858–1941), a prominent Brisbane businessman, politician, historian and sportsman. Thomas Welsby was born at Ipswich in November 1858 and educated at John Scott's School in Ipswich and Ipswich Boys Grammar School. Brisbane Powerhouse is an arts and cultural hub located in a former power station in the Brisbane suburb of New Farm, Queensland, Australia.
