Bulgarian Footballer of the Year ( bg, Футболист №1 на България, ''Futbolist №1 na Balgariya'') is an annual title awarded to the best Bulgarian association football player of the year. The award has been given since 1961, and the winner is elected by authorized journalists from the leading Bulgarian media. History 2011 was the first year with a vote held online by fans. The poll has been organized by the Futbol newspaper (1961–1975), the Start newspaper (1975–1998), the Futbol newspaper and Start magazine (1999–present). Dimitar Penev
Dimitar Dushkov Penev ( bg, Димитър Душков Пенев, born 12 July 1945) is a Bulgarian football coach and former player and central defender of CSKA Sofia. He played 90 games for Bulgaria national football team and scored two goals. He is regarded as one of his country's best ever defenders, winning Bulgarian footballer of the year in 1967 and 1971, he also participated in three world cups for his country in 1966, 1970 and 1974. He is Honorary President of CSKA Sofia and semi-pro side Nottingham United FC. Personal life Penev is uncle of former Bulgarian international and national team coach Lyuboslav Penev. Plamen Nikolov - Patso ( bg, Пламен Николов - Пацо, born 24 June 1957 in Pleven) is a former Bulgarian football defender. Club career In his career Nikolov played mostly for PFC Levski Sofia. In 1984, he was named Bulgarian Footballer of the Year. He was a successful player in the Swedish top division when playing for IK Brage. Between the seasons in Sweden (where they play spring-fall) he was on loan to Antwerpen and Vitosha Levski. After his retirement, he worked as assistant manager of Levski Sofia as well as head coach of Spartak Pleven, Olympik Teteven and Botev Vratsa. Stoycho Mladenov
Stoycho Dimitrov Mladenov ( bg, Стойчо Димитpoв Младенов; born 12 April 1957 in Ploski, Blagoevgrad Province) is a Bulgarian former football player and manager. Career Mladenov started from small teams like Dimitrovgrad and gradually moved to bigger teams like CSKA Sofia. From there he went all around the world, however his best moments of winning were in Portugal and also with his National Team. His best years were spent as a striker for CSKA Sofia. He also served the club as a manager and head coach. Mladenov's nickname is "Liverpool's Executioner" in honor of his winning goals against the European champion Liverpool F.C. in UEFA European Champions Cup 1/4 finals in season 81/82. Radoslav Zdravkov
Radoslav Metodiev Zdravkov ( bg, Радослав Meтoдиeв Здравков; born 30 July 1956) is a Bulgarian retired footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. Club career Zdravkov was born in Sofia. During his professional career, which spanned nearly 20 years, he represented Lokomotiv Sofia, CSKA Sofia, Portugal's G.D. Chaves, S.C. Braga, F.C. Paços de Ferreira and F.C. Felgueiras – after he had left the Iron Curtain at the age of 30 – FC Yantra and PFC Litex Lovech. Georgi Velinov Velinov ( bg, Георги Велинов Велинов; born 5 October 1957 in Ruse), nicknamed Johnny, is a former Bulgarian footballer and football manager. A goalkeeper, he was elected Bulgarian Footballer of the Year in 1981. Career Velinov played for PFC Dunav Rousse (1974–1975, four A PFG matches) and PFC Cherno More Varna (1976–1978, 37 A PFG matches) before joining PFC CSKA Sofia, of whom he was part of from 1978 to 1987. Andrey Zhelyazkov ( bg, Андрей Желязков; born 9 July 1952 in Radnevo) is a former Bulgarian footballer who played as a forward. He spent 12 years of his career playing for Slavia Sofia and is the club's all-time top goalscorer in the A Group with 136 goals. Zhelyazkov is also the most capped player in the history of the club with 338 league appearances. He participated in the 1986 FIFA World Cup. Atanas Hristov Mihaylov ( bg, Атанас Xpиcтов Михайлов, 5 July 1949 – 1 October 2006) was an association football former Forward (association football), forward and manager. Mihаylov is the top scorer in the history of Bulgaria national under-21 football team, the Bulgaria U21 team, managing 31 goals in 46 appearances. Pavel Georgiev Panov ( bg, Павел Гeopгиeв Панов; 16 September 1950 – 18 February 2018) was a Bulgarian football player and coach, who played as a midfielder or striker. Career Panov started his career with Septemvri Sofia in 1963 and stayed there until 1968. In 1969, he moved to Spartak Sofia. After the forceful union of Levski Sofia with Spartak in the late 1969 he became one of the best players in blue. In Levski he stayed twelve seasons, playing in 301 games and scoring 130 goals in the Championship. He played in forty-four games and scored thirteen goals for the Bulgarian National team with which he played in the World Cup tournament in 1974. Bozhidar Grigorov ( bg, Божидар Гpигopов; born 27 July 1945) is a retired Bulgarian footballer. Grigorov is best known for his career with Slavia Sofia, for whom he made over 300 appearances in 12 seasons with the club. Kiril Ivkov
Kiril Lozanov Ivkov ( bg, Кирил Лoзaнoв Ивков; born 21 June 1946) is a former Bulgarian footballer who played as a defender, most notably for Levski Sofia. In 1974 and 1975 he was named Bulgarian Footballer of the Year. Ivkov made his Bulgaria debut in 1968, earning 44 caps and scoring one goal over an eleven-year international career. He was part of the squad for the 1968 Summer Olympics, where Bulgaria won the silver medal. Ivkov captained his country 10 times and played in the 1974 FIFA World Cup.
