Bulgan Province
Bulgan ( mn, Булган) is one of the 21 aimags (provinces) of Mongolia, located in northern Mongolia. Its capital is also named Bulgan. Geography The aimag is surrounded by Russia (Buryatia) in the north, the aimags Khövsgöl in the northwest, Arkhangai in the southwest, Övörkhangai in the south, Töv in the southeast, and Selenge in the northeast. The small Orkhon Aimag forms an enclave at the border to Selenge. The north of the aimag is characterized by alpine forests, gradually blending in the arid steppe plains of the central Mongolian highland. The main rivers are the Orkhon and the Selenge, first of which enter the aimag from Övörkhangai while the second is enters from Khövsgöl Province. As a result, southern and central Bulgan is one of Mongolia's few arable regions. Ulungur River
The Ulungur River / Urungu River or Urungu ( mn, Өрөнгө гол, translit=Öröngö Gol, zh, c=乌伦古河, p=Wūlúngǔ hé), in its upper reaches in Mongolia known as the Bulgan River ( mn, Булган гол), is a river of China and Mongolia. It rises in the Altai Mountains in western Mongolia, flows south into China's Xinjiang (Altay Prefecture), where it turns north-west to empty into the Ulungur Lake. It is about 700 km long. Erdenebulgan, Khövsgöl
Erdenebulgan ( mn, Эрдэнэбулган) is a sum of Khövsgöl aimag. The area is about 4,960 km². In 2000, the sum had 2739 inhabitants. The center, officially named ''Eg-Üür'' ( mn, Эг-Үүр), is situated on the banks of the Egiin gol. History The Erdenebulgan sum was founded, together with the whole Khövsgöl aimag, in 1931. In 1933, it had about 2,600 inhabitants in 792 households, and about 41,000 heads of livestock. In 1956, it was joined with Tsagaan-Üür. In 1959, the Eg-Üür farm was founded, and Erdenebulgan became separate again. In 1975, the sum was dissolved once more, the state farm became part of another farm, but both the sum and the farm were reestablished in 1985. The state farm split up into several smaller firms in the mid-1990s. Economy In 2004, there were roughly 47,000 heads of livestock, among them 16,000 sheep, 15,000 goats, 11,000 cattle and yaks, 5,300 horses, and 5 camels.
