Buffalo EXtreme
The Buffalo eXtreme are a basketball team based in Buffalo, New York. The team is a member of the American Basketball Association in the East White Division, and will play their home games at the XGEN Elite Sports Complex in West Seneca. Founded in 2023, the eXtreme are the fourth American Basketball Association franchise in Buffalo history, following the Buffalo Sharks, Buffalo 716ers and Buffalo Blue Hawks. American Basketball Association (2000–present)
The American Basketball Association (ABA) is an American semi-professional men's basketball minor league that was founded in 1999. The ABA has teams based in the United States and previously had international teams based in Canada and Mexico. In the past, there were traveling teams from countries such as Australia and Japan who played in the ABA. Additionally, there were players from other countries that were on a U.S. team to showcase other talented athletes in the country. The current ABA bears no relation to the original American Basketball Association (1967–1976) that was considered a major league, and merged with the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1976. Richard Jacob
Richard L. Jacob Ph.D. (born September 24, 1958, in Niagara Falls, New York), is a sports coach and professor. He graduated from Niagara Catholic High School and Eisenhower College and obtained master's degrees in physical education and educational counseling at Canisius College and Niagara University, respectively. He later received his doctorate from SUNY Buffalo in school/educational psychology. In November 2006, he became interim chair of the business department at Medaille College. He currently is a professor of sport psychology at Medaille and is the head of the college's Sport Management program. In his career as a coach, he has worked both at the collegiate and professional ranks. He was head coach of Buffalo's Buffalo Rapids basketball team from 2005 to 2006. West Seneca
West Seneca is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 44,711 at the 2010 census. West Seneca is a centrally located interior town of the county, and a suburb of Buffalo. West Seneca, Orchard Park and Hamburg form the inner " Southtowns", a cluster of middle-class suburban towns. The Buffalo Sharks were a professional basketball team in the American Basketball Association based in Buffalo, New York. The team played two seasons as the Buffalo Rapids and Buffalo Silverbacks before suspending operations. This team is not to be confused with the Buffalo Stampede of the Premier Basketball League. History Buffalo Rapids (2005–06) The Buffalo Rapids were founded by Gary Nice and began play in the fall of 2005 as part of the ABA's Connie Hawkins Division. The Buffalo 716ers were a basketball team based in Buffalo, New York, they played in the PBL. The 716ers were originally granted an expansion team with the American Basketball Association., before joining the IBA. The team takes its name from area code 716, the telephone area code for Buffalo and much of the rest of western New York. Home games were originally played at Tapestry Charter School. The team then played home games at the Burt Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo. The team owner, and head coach, is Tawan Slaughter, a native of the Buffalo area. The Buffalo Blue Hawks were a basketball team based in Buffalo, New York. The team was a member of the American Basketball Association from 2015 to 2017, and later the North American Basketball League in 2019.
