The Buffalo State Bengals team represents Buffalo State College in college football. The Bengals competes in the NCAA Division III as a member of the Liberty League, which they joined in 2019 after playing in the Empire 8 from 2012 to 2018. Buffalo State's first football team was fielded in 1980. The team plays its home games at the 3,000 seat Coyer Field, located on-campus in Buffalo, New York. Buffalo State Bengals
The Buffalo State Bengals are composed of 18 teams representing Buffalo State College in intercollegiate athletics, including men and women's basketball, cross country, ice hockey, soccer, swimming & diving, and track and field. Men's sports include football. Women's sports include volleyball, lacrosse, and softball. The Bengals compete in the NCAA Division III and are members of the State University of New York Athletic Conference for most sports, except for the football team, which competes in the Liberty League. Les Dugan
Lester J. Dugan (September 14, 1921 – January 25, 2002) was and American football coach. He was the first head football coach at Buffalo State College in Buffalo, New York, serving from 1981 to 1985. Born in Asbury Park, New Jersey, Dugan was raised in Neptune City, New Jersey and attended Asbury Park High School, where he played on state championships teams in football and basketball. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, earning a Bronze Star Medal for heroism during the Battle of Okinawa. Dugan played college football and college basketball at Niagara University Niagara University (NU) is a private Catholic university in the Vincentian tradition in Lewiston in Niagara County, New York.
