Buffalo Church
Buffalo Church is a historic Methodism, Methodist Church (building), church located near Palestine, Wirt County, West Virginia, Palestine, Wirt County, West Virginia, United States. It was built between 1884 and 1886, and is a one-story, oblong log structure with exterior weatherboarding of beech wood and interior finish of wood boards on walls and ceiling. It is painted white on the inside and outside. Also on the property is the church cemetery, and three outbuildings: two pit toilets and a storage building that were constructed by workers associated with the Works Progress Administration, Work Projects Administration. It is located at the confluence of the Little Kanawha River and Reedy Creek (West Virginia), Reedy Creek, at , at an elevation of 682 feet (208 m). Its ZIP code is 26160. The community was named after Palestine (region), Palestine. Prior to 1905, the name of Palestine's post office was Reedy Ripple, to distinguish its name from a community named "Palatine" in Marion County, West Virginia, Marion County; the name "Reedy Ripple" derived from an accumulation of gravel in the Little Kanawha River at the mouth of Reedy Creek. Palestine gained notice in 2003 for being the hometown of Jessica Lynch. The Buffalo Church near Palestine was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. References

Wirt County, West Virginia
Wirt County is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 5,194, making it the least populous county in West Virginia. Its county seat is Elizabeth. The county was created in 1848 by the Virginia General Assembly and named for U.S. Attorney General and presidential candidate William Wirt. The county is served by one high school, Wirt County High School. Wirt County is part of the Parkersburg-Vienna, WV Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Wirt County was created from parts of Jackson and Wood counties on January 19, 1848. The county was named after William Wirt (1772–1834). The first European pioneer was William Beauchamp (1743-1808), a veteran of the Continental Navy and a Methodist minister.
