Buena Vista Wildlife Area is a state wildlife area in Portage County, Wisconsin, United States. Geography Buena Vista Wildlife Area is located on fragmented lands south of the Village of Plover and the Wisconsin River, east of Biron, Wisconsin Rapids, and Kellner, north of State Road 73, Adams County, and Waushara County, and west of Bancroft and Interstate 39 / U.S. Highway 51. The Buena Vista Marsh has various parcels of land in many sizes and shapes located in the towns of Grant, Buena Vista, Pine Grove, and Town of Plover. Management The Buena Vista Marsh is managed in cooperation of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the Wildlife Society at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. Waushara County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,520. Its county seat is Wautoma. Waushara County is located in central Wisconsin, about north of Madison. History Waushara County was established by an act of the Wisconsin Legislature on February 15, 1851. It originally consisted of a single organized Town of Waushara. In 1852 the county achieved full organization. The county seat was first located at Sacramento and was relocated to Wautoma in 1854 after a bitter fight between proponents of the two places. Bancroft is an unincorporated census-designated place in Portage County, Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population is 535. It is included in the Stevens Point, Wisconsin Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Bancroft was named for Warren Gamaliel Bancroft, who served in the 42nd Wisconsin Regiment during the American Civil War and later served as pastor of the Oshkosh Methodist Church. Bancroft was the name sake of Warren Gamaliel Bancroft Winnipeg Harding, who is better known as Warren G. Harding—the 29th president of the United States.
