Buena Vista is an unincorporated community in Taylor Township, Harrison County, Indiana, in the United States. History Buena Vista was laid out in 1850. The community was named after the 1847 Battle of Buena Vista in the Mexican–American War The Mexican–American War, also known in the United States as the Mexican War and in Mexico as the (''United States intervention in Mexico''), was an armed conflict between the United States and Mexico from 1846 to 1848. It followed the 1 .... An old variant name was Convenience. A post office called Convenience was established in 1878, and remained in operation until 1904. On March 28, 1859, a meteor exploded over the area and distributed meteorites over a 4 square mile area. Only four Chondrite meteorites were recovered, two of which are in a museum in London. The Battle of Buena Vista (February 22–23, 1847), known as the Battle of La Angostura in Mexico, and sometimes as Battle of Buena Vista/La Angostura, was a battle of the Mexican–American War. It was fought between the US invading forces, largely volunteers, under General Zachary Taylor, and the much larger Mexican Army under General Antonio López de Santa Anna. It took place near Buena Vista, a village in the state of Coahuila, about south of Saltillo, Mexico. ''La Angostura'' ("the narrow place") was the local name for the site.
