Bucovina Shepherd Dog
The Romanian Bucovina Shepherd Dog ( ro, Ciobănesc Românesc de Bucovina) is a breed of livestock guardian dogs native to historical Bukovina (Bucovina) region. The breed is closely related to other livestock guardian breeds of the region, such as the Greek Shepherd, Tornjak or Šarplaninac. There are four subtypes: the Mioritic (old name Barac), the Carpathian Shepherd Dog (old name Zăvod), the Romanian Raven Shepherd Dog and the standard Bucovina Shepherd. In the FCI, this particular breed is officially dubbed the "Romanian Bucovina Shepherd". History It is a natural breed with its origin in the Carpathian Mountains (Romania). The Romanian Raven Shepherd Dog ( ro, Ciobănesc Românesc Corb) is a livestock guardian dog originating in the southern and sub- Carpathian regions of Argeș County, Brașov County, Dâmbovița County, and Prahova County in Romania. They have been known for generations as "Corbi" because of their black coat. The dog was officially recognized by the Romanian Kennel Club on November 14, 2008. The Romanian Mioritic Shepherd Dog ( ro, Ciobănesc Românesc Mioritic) is a large breed of livestock guardian dog that originated in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. Description Appearance The male Mioritic stands about tall at the withers with the female slightly smaller at . This massive dog is covered in thick fluffy hair. It may be white, with or without pale grey or cream patches, or pale grey or cream all over. The dog should have a "vigorous" appearance. Sexual dimorphism is evident in this breed, with males being significantly larger than females. Temperament This breed has discipline as one of its main characteristics. It is a calm and well-mannered dog. As this dog was used as a herd protector, it is very attached to family and goes all the way when protecting those it is attached to. Carpathian Shepherd Dog
The Romanian Carpathian Shepherd Dog ( ro, Ciobănesc Românesc Carpatin) is a large breed of livestock guardian dogs that originated in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. History In March 1998, a group of fans of the Carpathian Shepherd Dog founded the Carpathian Shepherd Dogs Club. The club was later renamed the National Club of Carpathian Shepherd Dog Breeders. The club observed that there many Carpathians in Rucăr, Argeș County that are considered ancestors of today's Carpathians. A conference on the factors involved in the Romanian breeds took place in Bistrița in March 2003. The provisional homologation of the Carpathian Shepherd Dog was approved on July 6, 2005 in Buenos Aires. Health The breed has a life expectancy of about 12–14 years. The Fédération cynologique internationale (FCI) (English: International Canine Federation) is the largest international federation of national kennel clubs. It is based in Thuin, Belgium.
