Buckville, Arkansas
Buckville is an unincorporated community in Garland County, Arkansas, United States. It is located on hillsides within the Ouachita National Forest. Originally, Buckville was located further down in the valley nearer the Ouachita River; however, with the construction of Blakely Mountain Dam and subsequent filling of Lake Ouachita, the old village was flooded out and a new place was built higher along the hillside. Garland County, Arkansas
Garland County is located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 100,180. The county seat is Hot Springs. Garland County comprises the Hot Springs, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county includes Hot Springs National Park, the only national park in the state of Arkansas as well as the first property to be protected under federal legislation. A law was passed in 1832 supported by President Andrew Jackson to preserve this area, even before Arkansas was admitted as a state. Arkansas
Arkansas ( ) is a landlocked state in the South Central United States. The Ouachita River ( ) is a river that runs south and east through the U.S. states of Arkansas and Louisiana, joining the Tensas River to form the Black River near Jonesville, Louisiana. It is the 25th-longest river in the United States (by main stem). Course The Ouachita River begins in the Ouachita Mountains near Mena, Arkansas. It flows east into Lake Ouachita, a reservoir created by Blakely Mountain Dam. The North Fork and South Fork of the Ouachita flow into Lake Ouachita to join the main stream. Lake Ouachita
Lake Ouachita (''Pronounced WAH-shi-tah'') is a reservoir created by the damming of the Ouachita River by Blakely Mountain Dam (). Blakely Mountain Dam was built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers from 1948 to 1953 for hydroelectric power, recreation, water supply and wildlife conservation. The dam is tall, long at the crest, and is capable of 75 megawatts. The lake is located near Hot Springs, Arkansas. Lake Ouachita is the largest lake completely in Arkansas, as the larger Bull Shoals Lake extends into Missouri. Lake Ouachita has over of shoreline and over of water. Buckville Cemetery
Buckville Cemetery is a historic cemetery in rural Garland County, Arkansas. It is one of the few surviving remnants of the town of Buckville, which was inundated by the creation of Lake Ouachita; the other is the nearby Buckville Baptist Church, which was moved to its present location above the lake's planned water level in 1951. The cemetery, located near the end of Buckville Road on the north side of the lake (accessible via Arkansas Highway 298), the cemetery has more than 300 burials, include graves of some of the area's earliest settlers. The oldest documented burial is dated 1861. The cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
