''Plantago lanceolata'' is a species of flowering plant in the plantain family Plantaginaceae. It is known by the common names ribwort plantain, narrowleaf plantain, English plantain, ribleaf, lamb's tongue, and buckhorn. It is a common weed on cultivated or disturbed land. Description The plant is a rosette-forming perennial herb, with leafless, silky, hairy flower stems (). The basal leaves are lanceolate spreading or erect, scarcely toothed with 3-5 strong parallel veins narrowed to a short petiole. The flower stalk is deeply furrowed, ending in an ovoid inflorescence of many small flowers each with a pointed bract. Each inflorescence can produce up to two hundred seeds. Flowers are ( calyx green, corolla brownish), 4 bent back lobes with brown midribs and long white stamens. Buckhorn is a census-designated place (CDP) in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The population was 318 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bloomsburg-Berwick micropolitan area. It uses the Bloomsburg ZIP code of 17815. History Historically, there was an Indian path leading through the Buckhorn area, and in what would become Buckhorn the path was blazed by the antlers of a deer in a white oak sapling. When the first non-native settlers arrived in the Fishing Creek valley, they created another path that intersected the Indian path, and the community came to be named for the deer antlers. The community was founded due to discovery of ore in the area. Vaniah Rees built the first house in the community in 1820. The first store in the community was opened in 1836. Buckhorn is a station in Volksdorf on the Hamburg U-Bahn line U1. It is located on the Ohlstedt branch of the line. History The station was built in 1916 under the name "Volksdorf-Nord." The station's architect was Eugen Göbel, who also designed the U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations Barmbek, Hasselbrook, and Ohlsdorf, as well as all underground stations of the Walddörferbahn. Because of the provisional steam railway operation to Barmbek, initially, no trains stopped at the station. It was only with the beginning of electrical railway operations in 1925 that trains stopped at this station, which now had the name Buckhorn.
