Buchfelde
Buchfelde is now a suburb of Gawler, South Australia, on the northern outskirts of Adelaide in South Australia. History A property in the area was settled in 1848 by Dr. Richard von Schomburgk and his brother Otto, and is named after their financial benefactor Leopold von Buch who helped them flee Germany. The name was changed from Buchfelde to Loos in 1918 after a town in France which was the site of a battle in 1915. This was to remove a "name of enemy origin". The name returned to Buchfelde in November 1990. Geography The modern boundaries of the suburb were set in June 2011 after the construction of the Northern Expressway. They are the Gawler River on the south, Northern Expressway on the west and north, and Gawler Bypass Road on the east, with the Two Wells Road through the middle. Ward Belt, South Australia
Ward Belt (originally known as ''Ward's Belt'') is a locality to the west of Gawler in South Australia. The area was named after James Ward and his wife, who arrived in South Australia in the ''Olivia'' in 1853. The area is predominantly used for grain, beef and sheep farming. When the Max Fatchen Expressway was completed in 2011, it divided Buchfelde so the portion north of the expressway was reassigned to Ward Belt. This included the area of the Gawler Aerodrome which was formerly in Buchfelde but is now in Ward Belt. Gawler River, South Australia
Gawler River is a locality and former small town on the north bank of the Gawler River, west of the town of Gawler in South Australia. The Dawkins family (of whom M. B. Dawkins MLC was a member) established extensive farms in the early 19th century. The Dawkins' Newbold Stud is credited with being first to develop the Poll Dorset breed of sheep, which is one of Australia's most important sheep meat breeds. Gawler Bypass Road
Gawler Bypass is a major north–south route in the outer northern suburbs of the city of Adelaide, South Australia, connecting Main North Road to the Sturt Highway, bypassing Gawler. The route was built in 1963 in an attempt to redirect traffic on the national highway out of Gawler town centre and has been upgraded and realigned several times since then. History The first Gawler bypass was planned in the 1950s and built as a single two-lane carriageway around the town in 1963 with at-grade intersections and carried 3,000 vehicles per day. It ended at a tee-junction with Main North Road at the southern end, and followed an alignment that included what is now the southbound on-ramp and Brereton Road, Jack Cooper Drive over the Winckel Bridge, and Paternoster Drive to the railway bridge. Northern Expressway
Northern Expressway, also known as the Fatchen Northern Expressway, is a 21 kilometre long controlled-access highway in Adelaide, South Australia. Since March 2020, the North–South Motorway continues west of Port Wakefield Highway and intersects the Port River Expressway to reach the harbour at Port Adelaide. These are the northernmost two parts of the North–South Corridor. Cycling is not permitted on the Expressway. The Stuart O'Grady Bikeway is a sealed shared cycling and walking path adjacent to the eastern side of the expressway.
