Buchanan, New South Wales
Buchanan is a locality in the City of Maitland and City of Cessnock, New South Wales, Australia. It is approximately half farmland and half forested. It was notable as being the intersection of the roads between Maitland, Beresfield, Kurri and Edgeworth. It is the preferred location for a regional freight hub. In 2016, the population was 197, median age was 41 and 85% were born in Australia. Roads The Hunter Expressway runs through Buchanan. There is a rest stop on the Expressway here, just to the south of the John Renshaw Drive interchange. Mount Vincent Road, starting at , changes its name to be Buchanan Road and ends in the middle of Buchanan. The Hunter Expressway required four bridges to cross over Buchanan road; two for the through traffic, and one for the expressway's off-ramp southbound and on-ramp north bound. The City of Maitland is a local government area in the lower Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia. The area is situated adjacent to the New England Highway and the Hunter railway line. The Mayor of the City of Maitland is Cr. David Threlfo, an Independent politician. Proposed amalgamation A 2015 review of local government boundaries by the NSW Government Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal recommended the merger of a number of adjoining councils. In the initial proposal, the City of Maitland was not included in any amalgam ation proposals. However, following the lodging of an alternate proposal by Mid-Coast Council Council to amalgamate the Gloucester, Great Lakes and Greater Taree councils, the NSW Minister for Local Government proposed a merger between the Dungog Shire with the City of Maitland. Hunter Expressway
The Hunter Expressway is a long controlled-access highway in New South Wales, Australia. It was previously known as the F3 to Branxton link or Kurri Kurri Corridor during the planning stage. It has two lanes in each direction, running generally north west from the Pacific Motorway at the Newcastle Link Road interchange to the eastern end of the Belford Bends Deviation on the New England Highway north of Branxton. The road allows traffic to bypass the Maitland area, Lochinvar, Greta and Branxton. The expressway opened on 22 March 2014.
