Brunswick City Soccer Club is a soccer club from Brunswick West, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The club was formed in 1970 by local Greek Australians as Thornbury Soccer Club and today has teams playing in Senior Men's, Senior Women's and Junior competitions. Brunswick City currently participates in the National Premier Leagues Victoria. History Brunswick City's foundations can be traced to the early 1970 when a group of Greek migrants got together for a friendly game of soccer in Thornbury. Eventually a club was established, which due to the Victorian Soccer Federation regionalisation policy, was initially known as Thornbury Soccer Club. In 1980 a new base was formed in Brunswick where the club took on its new name of Brunswick City "Leonidas" Soccer Club inspired by the Spartan Warrior. Leonidas
Leonidas I (; grc-gre, Λεωνίδας; died 19 September 480 BC) was a List of kings of Sparta#Heraclids, king of the Greek city-state of Sparta, and the 17th of the List of kings of Sparta#Agiad dynasty, Agiad line, a dynasty which claimed descent from the mythological demigod Heracles. Leonidas I was son of King Anaxandridas II. He succeeded his half-brother King Cleomenes I to the throne in c. 489 BC. His co-ruler was King Leotychidas. He was succeeded by his son, King Pleistarchus. Leonidas had a notable participation in the Second Persian invasion of Greece, Second Greco-Persian War, where he led the allied Greek forces to a last stand at the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC) while attempting to defend the pass from the invading Persian army; he died at the battle and entered myth as the leader of the 300 Spartans. Adelaide United Football Club is a professional Association Football, soccer club based in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. George John Mells Jr. (born 23 May 1997) is an Australian professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for Port Melbourne. Football career Born in Melbourne, Mells played youth football for Chelsea and Southampton before returning to Australia to make his professional debut for Adelaide United in 2015. Melbourne Victory Football Club is an Australian professional soccer club based in Melbourne, Victoria. Theo Markelis (born 24 June 1992) is an Australian footballer who is currently playing for Hume City. Career Club career Whilst in Australia he played for Green Gully SC.
