Bruno Leuschner (Politician)
Bruno Max Leuschner (12 August 1910 – 10 February 1965) was a German politician and functionary of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany. Biography Leuschner was born into the family of a shoemaker and a seamstress. After graduating from high school in Berlin-Neukölln, he completed a clerical internship at the Lachmann & Meyer clothing factory in Berlin, where he then worked as a clerk, calculator, salesman, and most recently as an employee of the export department. In the evenings he studied economics, philosophy and psychology at the Lessing University and the Friedrich Wilhelm University. State Planning Commission (GDR)
The State Planning Commission (SPC) (German: ''Staatliche Plankommission'') was a central state authority of the GDR Council of Ministers for planning, coordinating and proportional development of all sectors of the economy, public education and other areas of public life in the districts and for solving the most important economic tasks. In the central administrative economy of the GDR, it was responsible for the coordination, elaboration and control of the medium-term perspective plans (five-year plan) and the annual economic plans derived from them.The chairmen of the State Planning Commission had ministerial rank. Friedrichsfelde Central Cemetery
The Friedrichsfelde Central Cemetery (german: Zentralfriedhof Friedrichsfelde) is a cemetery in the Boroughs of Berlin, borough of Lichtenberg in Berlin. It was the cemetery used for many of Berlin's Socialism, Socialists, Communism, Communists, and anti-fascist fighters. History When the cemetery was founded in 1881 it was called the Friedrichsfelde Municipal Cemetery Berlin (german: Berliner Gemeindefriedhof Friedrichsfelde). In 1900, with the burial of Wilhelm Liebknecht, founder of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Social Democratic Party (SPD), the cemetery became the resting place for many of the leaders and activists of Germany's social democratic, socialist and communist movements. In 1919, Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg, co-founders of the Communist Party of Germany were buried there. Mauthausen Concentration Camp Survivors
Mauthausen was a Nazi concentration camp on a hill above the market town of Mauthausen (roughly east of Linz), Upper Austria. It was the main camp of a group with nearly 100 further subcamps located throughout Austria and southern Germany. The three Gusen concentration camps in and around the village of St Georgen/Gusen, just a few kilometres from Mauthausen, held a significant proportion of prisoners within the camp complex, at times exceeding the number of prisoners at the Mauthausen main camp. The Mauthausen main camp operated from 8 August 1938, several months after the German annexation of Austria, to 5 May 1945, when it was liberated by the United States Army. Sachsenhausen () or Sachsenhausen-Oranienburg was a German Nazi concentration camp in Oranienburg, Germany, used from 1936 until April 1945, shortly before the defeat of Nazi Germany in May later that year.
