Brukenthal High School
Samuel von Brukenthal National College (german: Samuel-von-Brukenthal-Gymnasium, ro, Colegiul Național „Samuel von Brukenthal”, hu, Samuel von Brukenthal Főgimnázium ) is a German-language high school founded in Nagyszeben, Transylvania, Kingdom of Hungary (today in Sibiu (german: Hermannstadt), Romania). The school is named after Samuel von Brukenthal, governor of the Grand Principality of Transylvania between 6 July 1774 and 9 January 1787. The earliest record of the school is from 1380, making it the oldest German-language school in Romania. The current school building was built between 1779 and 1786 on the site of an earlier school, and is classified as a historical monument with LMI code SB-II-m-A-12082. Arthur Coulin
Arthur Coulin (20 September 1869 – 9 November 1912) was an Austro-Hungarian Romanian painter and art critic. Biography He was born in Nagyszeben, Austria-Hungary (now Sibiu, Romania) to an illustrious family of French origin. His father, Nikolaus, was a prominent lawyer who died when Arthur was only eleven. After that, his mother raised the family at the home of her father, a local judge. Arthur and his three siblings all dabbled in art and showed talent at an early age, but he was the only one who chose it as a career, against his mother's wishes. He enrolled at the Lutheran High School (now the Samuel von Brukenthal National College), where he studied with . Viorel Tilea
Viorel Virgil Tilea C.B.E. (6 April 1896 – 20 September 1972) was a Romanian diplomat, most noted for his ambassadorship in the United Kingdom during the Second World War. He died in London. During the Second World War, Tilea lived at Holton Place, Oxfordshire, where he became a key representative of Romania's monarchist regime in exile. Early life He was born in Sibiu. He studied at the Hermannstädter Evangelisches Obergymnasium in Sibiu, before joining the University of Bratislava. However, in 1915, he was conscripted into the Austro-Hungarian Army. He completed his studies at the University of Vienna. Arthur Arz Von Straußenburg
Generaloberst Arthur Freiherr Arz von Straußenburg ( hu, Báró Artúr Arz de Straussenburg; 16 June 1857 – 1 July 1935) was an Austro-Hungarian colonel general and last Chief of the General Staff of the Austro-Hungarian Army. At the outbreak of the First World War, he commanded the 15th Infantry Division. Soon, he was promoted to the head of the 6th Corps and the First Army. Daniil Popovici-Barcianu (October 19, 1847–) was an Austro-Hungarian ethnic Romanian teacher, naturalist and political activist. Rubin Patiția
Rubin Patiția (–June 13, 1918) was an Austro-Hungarian ethnic Romanian lawyer and political activist. A native of the Transylvania region, he trained as a lawyer, settling in Alba Iulia in the 1870s and using his position to advance the local Romanian community. Patiția achieved prominence as a signatory of the Transylvanian Memorandum in 1892, an act that eventually led Patiția to spend time in prison. Soon after 1900, he began to withdraw from politics, dying near the close of World War I, shortly before the union of Transylvania with Romania.
