Coral Browne
Coral Edith Browne (23 July 1913 – 29 May 1991) was an Australian-American stage and screen actress. Her extensive theatre credits included Broadway productions of ''Macbeth'' (1956), '' The Rehearsal'' (1963) and '' The Right Honourable Gentleman'' (1965). She won the 1984 BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress for the BBC TV film ''An Englishman Abroad'' (1983). Carl Browne (1849–1914) was an American cattle rancher, cartoonist, journalist, and politician. A former close political associate of controversial San Francisco politician Denis Kearney, Browne is best remembered as a top leader of the Coxey's Army protest movement of 1894. Desmond Henry Browne, Baron Browne of Ladyton, (born 22 March 1952) is a Scottish politician who served in the Cabinet of the United Kingdom under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown as Secretary of State for Defence 2006 to 2008 and Secretary of State for Scotland from 2007 to 2008. Bud Browne
Bud Browne (July 12, 1912 – July 25, 2008) was an American early pioneer surf film maker. He was the first filmmaker to show surf movies commercially. Browne was captain of the swim team at the University of Southern California in 1933. He learned to surf during his time in Venice, California. He began filming surfing in the 1940s while visiting Hawaii. Early life Bud Browne was born in Newtonville, Massachusetts on July 14, 1912 and died in San Luis Obispo, California on July 25, 2008. He moved to Los Angeles in 1931 and attended the University of Southern California, competing in collegiate swimming and became the captain of the team. In 1938, after graduating from the University, Browne obtained a job as a life guard. His time in this new occupation however, was short lived because he was soon enlisted into the Navy during World War II. While at war, he taught many Marines how to swim. Richard Arthur Allan Browne (August 11, 1917 – June 4, 1989) was an American cartoonist, best known for writing and drawing ''Hägar the Horrible'' and ''Hi and Lois''. Biography Browne attended Cooper Union and got his start at the ''New York Journal-American'' as a copy boy and later worked in the art department. He also worked as a courtroom sketch artist for the paper, covering the Lucky Luciano trial. He joined the army, producing work for the engineering unit and created ''Ginny Jeep'', a comic strip about the Women's Army Corps. During World War II, he was assigned to draw maps and charts for an Army engineering unit, eventually rising to staff sergeant. In his spare time, he created the comic "Ginny Jeep", appearing in Army and Air Force newspapers. In the 1940s, he worked as an illustrator for ''Newsweek'' as well as for an advertising company, where he created the trademark logo for Chiquita. Byron Ellis Browne (born December 27, 1942) is an American former professional baseball outfielder, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, and Philadelphia Phillies, between and . He attended Central High School in St. Joseph, MO. Browne was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates as an amateur free agent, on September 9, 1962, then was drafted by the Cubs from the Pirates in the 1963 first-year draft. In his first Major League Baseball at-bat, on September 9, 1965, Browne lined out in the second inning of Sandy Koufax's perfect game. After a productive rookie season in , Browne played most of for the Double-A Dallas-Fort Worth Spurs. Christopher Kelly Browne (May 16, 1952 – February 5, 2023) was an American comic strip artist and cartoonist. He was the son of cartoonist Dik Browne and brother of cartoonist Chance Browne. From 1989 to 2023, Browne wrote and drew the comic strip ''Hägar the Horrible'', which is distributed by King Features Syndicate. Daniel J. Browne (born June 24, 1975) is an American distance runner. He has won numerous major American road race championships and was a member of the 2004 Olympic team in the 10 km and marathon. Education Brown attended West Linn High School, a suburb of Portland, Oregon, graduating in 1993. He graduated from The United States Military Academy with a major in Spanish & Portuguese and a minor in Systems engineering in 1997. Anucha Browne is an American former women's basketball player and a former executive for the New York Knicks team of the NBA. She is also known for winning a sexual harassment lawsuit that she filed against former New York Knicks general manager Isiah Thomas and Madison Square Garden. Playing career In 1982, Browne enrolled at Northwestern, where she was a star on the school's women's basketball team. Sanders was selected to the all-Big Ten team three times, and was named Big Ten Player of the Year twice; she also holds the all-time conference records for scoring (2,307 points) and rebounds (951), and in 1985 led all Division I women's basketball players nationwide in scoring average with 30.5 points per game. Davey Browne
Davey Browne, Jr (21 December 1986 – 14 September 2015) was an Australian professional boxer (22–2–1, 8 knockouts). Browne died three days after sustaining brain injuries in a boxing match against Filipino Carlo Magali (19–7–3, 9 KOs) on 11 September 2015 in Ingleburn, Australia. He was knocked out with 30 seconds left in the 12th and final round. One report had Browne winning the fight before the knockout; another report stated that Browne was in control early, but that Magali had him in trouble in the 6th round and had knocked him down in the 11th. There was speculation that Browne may have been distracted by loose tape on his gloves and taken his eyes off his opponent when the knockout punch landed. Ernest de Sylly Hamilton Browne (11 July 1855 – 13 April 1946; also ''E. de S. H. Browne'') was an Irish tennis player who was active in the late 19th century. Career Browne played his first tournament in April at 1880 at a tournament staged in Cheltenham on clay he reached the final before losing to Ernest Renshaw. In late May 1880 he entered the Irish Lawn Tennis Championships and reached the All-Comers final losing to William Renshaw in straight sets. In 1881 he entered three tournaments this year including the South of England Championships losing in the 1st round. At Irish Championships he lost a second match against Herbert Lawford retiring at two sets to one down. He reached his second successive Cheltenham final in 1881 before losing to William Renshaw.
