Brown Field is a 5,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Valparaiso, Indiana. It is home to the Valparaiso University football and women's soccer teams. It also hosts track meets. It previously hosted the men's soccer and baseball teams. The facility opened in 1919. It has hosted 9 Conference Championship Teams (1945, 1951, 1952, 1954, 1964, 1968, 1969, 2000 and 2003). Valparaiso ( ), colloquially Valpo, is a city and the county seat of Porter County, Indiana, United States. The population was 34,151 at the 2020 census. History The site of present-day Valparaiso was included in the purchase of land from the Potawatomi people by the U.S. Government in October 1832. Chiqua's town or Chipuaw was located a mile east of the current Courthouse along the Sauk Trail. Chiqua's town existed from or before 1830 until after 1832. The location is just north of the railroad crossing on State Route 2 and County Road 400 North. Located on the ancient Native American trail from Rock Island to Detroit, the town had its first log cabin in 1834. Established in 1836 as ''Portersville'', county seat of Porter County, it was renamed to Valparaiso (meaning "Vale of Paradise" in Old Spanish) in 1837 after Valparaíso, Chile, near which the county's namesake David Porter battled in the Battle of Valparaiso during the War of 1812. Valparaiso Beacons Baseball
The Valparaiso Beacons baseball team is a baseball team that represents Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. The Beacons competed in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship five times before 1970. After returning in 2012 for the first time in 44 years, the Beacons' first round game was almost delayed an additional day, because the preceding game was the second-longest in NCAA tournament history. The Beacons game against the Purdue Boilermakers began at approximately 10:40 pm only 20 minutes before a curfew. In their second game of the NCAA tournament, the Crusaders played the Kentucky Wildcats, who lost the marathon game to the Kent State Golden Flashes. The games were played at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Indiana. The 2012 Beacons team tied a school record with 35 wins. The Beacons are coached by Brian Schmack. They play their home games at Emory G. Valparaiso University (Valpo) is a private university in Valparaiso, Indiana. It is a Lutheran university with about 3,000 students from over 50 countries on a campus of . Originally named Valparaiso Male and Female College, Valparaiso University was founded in 1859 as one of the first coeducation colleges in the United States. Valpo has five undergraduate colleges and a graduate school. It is home to the second-largest collegiate chapel in the world, the Chapel of the Resurrection. History Valparaiso Male and Female College In 1859, citizens of Valparaiso were so supportive of the placement of the college that they raised $11,000 to encourage the Methodist Church to locate there. Valparaiso Crusaders Men's Soccer
The Valparaiso Crusaders men's soccer team represented Valparaiso University (Valpo) in NCAA Division I soccer competition as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference The Crusaders played home matches at Brown Field on the Valpo campus in Valparaiso, Indiana. History Valparaiso began playing men's soccer in 1983. The Beacons were a charter member of the Association of Mid-Continent Universities in 1982 and entered Mid-Con soccer competition in 1988. In 2007, Valpo began a ten-year all-sports membership in the Horizon League. In May 2017, the Missouri Valley Conference extended an invitation for the Crusaders to join; after concluding conference play for the year, Valparaiso accepted the invitation on May 25, with the move being effective on July 1. Following the 2019 NCAA Division I men's soccer season, Valparaiso will cut the sport and men's tennis in order to allow greater attention to the school's other sports teams.
