Brother (Canadian Band)
Brother was a short-lived rock trio from Winnipeg, Manitoba, best known for the fact that all three members later joined The Guess Who. They are only known to have recorded three songs.Einarson, John: "American Woman: The Story of the Guess Who"; (1995) Quarry Press History Brother was formed in 1969 by guitarist/singer Kurt Winter, bassist/singer Bill Wallace, and drummer/singer Vance Schmidt (later known as Vance Masters). In the summer of 1970, the band members organized and headlined the Niverville Pop Festival, Manitoba's first rock festival. Through the Winnipeg rock scene, the members of Brother were longtime acquaintances of The Guess Who, and the two bands often attended each other's gigs. Guitarist Randy Bachman left The Guess Who in mid-1970, and that band's leader Burton Cummings recruited Winter as Bachman's replacement. Winnipeg () is the capital and largest city of the province of Manitoba in Canada. ''Share the Land'' is the seventh studio album by Canadian rock band The Guess Who, released in October 1970. It was their first album following the departure of Randy Bachman, and the band brought in two new guitarists, Kurt Winter and Greg Leskiw. The album was another international success for the band, reaching number seven in Canada and number fourteen in the US, and spawned three hit singles in the title track, "Hand Me Down World" and " Hang On to Your Life". Release history In addition to the usual 2 channel stereo version a 4 channel quadraphonic mix was released by RCA on the 8-track tape format. Jim Kale
Michael James Kale (born August 11, 1943) is a retired Canadian musician, best known as the original bassist for the rock band The Guess Who. He also served in the band Scrubbaloe Caine. In 1987, he was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame as a member of The Guess Who. Career Kale joined the local Winnipeg band Chad Allan and the Reflections in 1962; that band later evolved into The Guess Who. Kale was the band's bassist during its most successful period up to 1972, appearing on several hit singles and albums and co-writing the band's best-known song, "American Woman", which reached no. 1 in Canada and the United States. Kale left The Guess Who in 1972 after the '' Live at the Paramount'' album, going on to join Scrubbaloe Caine. "Hand Me Down World" is song written by Kurt Winter, performed and released in 1970 by The Guess Who, for whom Winter served as lead guitarist from 1970 to 1974 and 1977 to 1978. Burton Cummings
Burton Lorne Cummings (born December 31, 1947) is a Canadian musician, singer, and songwriter. He is best known for leading The Guess Who during that band's most successful period from 1965 to 1975, and for a lengthy solo career. Cummings has been inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and has been cited as one of the most influential performers in Canadian rock music. He has also been named as an officer of the Order of Canada and Order of Manitoba. The Burton Cummings Theatre in Winnipeg is named in his honour.
