Broos (film)
'' Broos '' (''Frail'') is a 1997 Dutch film directed by Mijke de Jong. It is based on a play, in which five sisters meet up to record a message for their parents' 40th wedding anniversary. The film was shot on location in 14 days with backing from the Netherlands Film Fund. Mijke de Jong (born 23 September 1959) is a Dutch film director, screenwriter and producer. She is known for creating films such as ''Bluebird'' (2004), '' Frailer'' (2014), ''Layla M.'' (2016) and ''God Only Knows'' (2019). ''Layla M.'' was selected as the 2018 Dutch entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The Netherlands Film Fund ( nl, Nederlands Filmfonds) is a subsidy fund for Dutch film productions and was founded in 1993. The Netherlands Film Fund is itself mainly subsidized by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. In 2007, the total budget of the fund was €33,000,000. Plot ''Marnie'' is about a young woman who makes a living by embezzling her employers' funds, moving on, and changing her identity. Her criminal behaviour is described in detail, but her motives remain obscure, as she is a capable person who would have likely fared well in an honest career. She is finally caught in the act by one of her employers, a young widower named Mark Rutland, who blackmails her into marriage. Two shocking events near the end of the story send the troubled woman to the brink of suicide, and she must eventually face the trauma from her past that is the root cause of her behaviour. Maartje Nevejan (born in Utrecht, Netherlands) is a Dutch documentary filmmaker, best known for multimedia productions like ''14 and one stations'', ''Couscous & Cola''. and ''The National Canta Ballet'' Background Nevejan performed in theater for 10 years and has been working as a director in the media since 1997. She studied acting at Stella Adler in New York City and with the Peter Brook company in Rome, Italy in the ‘80s.
