Brooklyn Mack
Brooklyn Devon Mack is an American ballet dancer. He is currently a freelance dancer and previously at The Washington Ballet. Early life Mack was born in Elgin, Kershaw County, South Carolina, and is the youngest of four children. When the nurse had to put a name on his birth certificate but his mother had not chosen one, his sister told the nurse he is named Brooklyn Devon Mack, and the nurse left before his mother could react. At age 12, after seeing a performance of the Columbia Classical Ballet company, and learning that ballet could help football players, he and his mother agreed that he would start ballet, and in exchange he could go to a football tryout. His mother took him to Pavlovich Dance School, and asked the school give him a scholarship. Although the school did not have scholarships, the school agreed to give one to Mack, but he had to take classes six times a week, which he accepted. Elgin is an incorporated town in Kershaw County, South Carolina, United States. Some portions of the town are in adjacent Richland County, South Carolina. USA International Ballet Competition
The USA International Ballet Competition, or USA IBC, is one of the world's top competitions for ballet. Located in Jackson, Mississippi, this competition is attended by dancers from all over the world to represent their country for bronze, silver, or gold medals in a variety of categories of ballet in an Olympic-style competition. Founded in 1978 by Thalia Mara, the first USA International Ballet Competition took place in 1979. This first competition was given sanction by the United Nations' International Dance Committee of UNESCO's International Theatre Institute. ''Spartacus'' (russian: «Спартак», Spartak) is a ballet by Aram Khachaturian (1903–1978). The work follows the exploits of Spartacus, the leader of the slave uprising against the Romans known as the Third Servile War, although the ballet's storyline takes considerable liberties with the historical record. Khachaturian composed ''Spartacus'' in 1954, and was awarded a Lenin Prize for the composition that same year. Christopher Peter Wheeldon OBE (born 22 March 1973) is an English international choreographer of contemporary ballet. Life and career Born in Yeovil, Somerset, to an engineer and a physical therapist, Wheeldon began training to be a ballet dancer at the age of 8. He attended the Royal Ballet School between the ages of 11 and 18. In 1991, Wheeldon joined the Royal Ballet, London; and in that same year, he won the gold medal at the Prix de Lausanne competition.
