Brooklyn Jazz Underground
Brooklyn Jazz Underground is a jazz association founded in Brooklyn, New York, in 2007. The association was formed by ten musicians to promote their work. In 2008, Anne Mette Iversen and Alexis Cuadrado of the Brooklyn Jazz Underground started the sister company, the record label Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records. Founding members of the association include Tanya Kalmanovitch, Alan Ferber, Alexis Cuadrado, Shane Endsley, Benny Lackner, Dan Pratt, Jerome Sabbagh, Anne Mette Iversen, Sunny Jain, and Ted Poor. In 2006, Kalmanovitch talked about the idea with Ferber and Cuadrado. Anne Mette Iversen
Anne Mette Iversen (born 1972) is a Danish jazz bassist and composer. She leads and composes for the Anne Mette Iversen Quartet / Quartet +1 as well as the groups Double Life, Poetry of Earth, and the Ternion Quartet. She has released 9 albums as a leader. Iversen was Composer in Residence for the Norrbotten Big Band (Sweden) in 2016. Iversen co-founded the Brooklyn Jazz Underground in 2006 and is co-owner of the related record label Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records, which was formed in 2008. She works as sideman in various settings and as freelance composer. Iversen lived in New York City from 1998 to 2012 and is currently based in Berlin, Germany. Shane Endsley
Shane Endsley is an American trumpeter, drummer, and composer. He is a founding member of Kneebody, as well as an active leader and sideman with other New York City jazz musicians, as well as with pop and rock musicians such as Ani DiFranco and Pearl Jam. Background Endsley was born in 1975 in Denver, Colorado, and studied trumpet, percussion, and composition at the Eastman School of Music, where he met the other members of Kneebody. Since then, he has toured and recorded with Ani DiFranco and Steve Coleman and has done work with Slavic Soul Party, Ralph Alessi, Tim Berne, Ravi Coltrane, John Hollenbeck and others in the downtown music and jazz scenes. Smalls Jazz Club is a jazz club at 183 West 10th Street, Greenwich Village, New York City.
