Hugh Dierker
Hugh E. Dierker (1890 – 1975) was an American film director and producer. Biography Dierker worked at Pathé. By 1920 he had established his own production company, Hugh Dierker Productions. Junior Coghlan wrote about him in his autobiography. A photograph of him and Bebe Daniels appeared in the ''Los Angeles Herald'' April 14, 1922 in connection with a showing of his production '' When Dawn Came''. His wife authored the story and is given a dedication on the associated songbook. In 1912 he contracted for a garage building in Los Angeles. Alice Lake
Alice Lake (September 12, 1895 – November 15, 1967) was an American film actress. She began her career during the silent film era and often appeared in comedy shorts opposite Roscoe Arbuckle. Career Born in Brooklyn, New York, Lake began her career as a dancer. She made her screen debut in 1912, and she appeared in a number of comedy shorts by Mack Sennett. Lake was often the leading lady of Roscoe Arbuckle in comedies like '' Oh Doctor!'' (1917) and '' The Cook'' (1918). Arbuckle directed both films and was joined by Buster Keaton who had a leading role in ''Oh Doctor!''. Lake also played dramatic roles with Bert Lytell in ''Blackie's Redemption'' and ''The Lion's Den'', both from 1919. During the 1920s she appeared in a number of Metro silent film features as the lead actress. At the height of her career she earned $1,200 per week as a motion picture actress. A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. Early life Ruth Stonehouse was born to James Wesley Stonehouse and Georgia C. Worster on September 28, 1892, in Denver, Colorado. Her father was the founder of Stonehouse Signs Inc. According to the 1900 Census for Laurence Town, Teller County, Colorado, she lived with her father, James, a sign writer, and her grandmother, Eda Stonehouse, along with her sister, Hazel, who was a year younger. By 1910, she was living with her mother, Georgia Stonehouse, a stenographer, and her sister, Hazel, in Chicago, Illinois. Curiously, her mother lists herself as a widow on the 1910 Census, while James Stonehouse can be found residing in Arizona.
