Alexander Brod
Alexander Semenovich Brod (born 1969; russian: Александр Семёнович Брод) is a Russian human rights activist. He was a member of the Public Chamber of Russia between 2008 and 2012 and is a director of the Moscow Bureau for Human Rights. He is a member of the Expert Council at the Ombudsman of Russian Federation. Early life and career Brod graduated from the Philology and Law faculty of the Samara State University. Since 2001 he has been the director of the Moscow Bureau for Human Rights. The Bureau's declared aims include combating racism, xenophobia and antisemitism. In 2004, the Bureau considered filing a lawsuit against Mel Gibson, the director of ''The Passion of the Christ'', and the film’s distributor in Russia. Harry Brod (February 1, 1951 – June 16, 2017) was a professor of sociology at University of Northern Iowa. Education He held a PhD in Philosophy, 1981, from the University of California, San Diego. Men's studies Brod was one of the first academics to specialize in men's studies. Brod became interested in the men's movement in the mid-1960s, as he thought about society's expectations of individuals based on their gender. About 1980, while working on his doctorate at the University of California, San Diego, Brod attended a weekend retreat called the California Men's Gathering. While eating breakfast, he witnessed an argument between two men. One man complained that the discussions were not sufficiently focused on women's issues. The other man said the retreat was about men's emotional and personal needs, and that men should not feel guilty about their power and position in society. Irven "Jack" Brod (November 29, 1909 – January 6, 2008) was an American businessman and innovator. He was the President of Empire Diamond and Gold Buying Service, a New York City-based jewelry business, which he established with his father in the Empire State Building two months after its opening in 1931. Brod was a tenant of the Empire State Building for around 77 years, and was the last remaining original tenant at the time of his death. Early life Brod was born in Newnan, Georgia to parents who emigrated from Russia and changed their last name from "Brodsky". Max Brod ( he, מקס ברוד; 27 May 1884 – 20 December 1968) was a German-speaking Bohemian, later Israeli, author, composer, and journalist. Although he was a prolific writer in his own right, he is best remembered as the friend and biographer of writer Franz Kafka. Kafka named Brod as his literary executor, instructing Brod to burn his unpublished work upon his death. Brod refused and had Kafka's works published instead. Rabbi Menachem Brod (or Brodt) is a senior Chabad rabbi from Kfar Chabad, Israel. He is the spokesman of the Chabad youth movement center ''Tze'irei Agudas Chabad'' in Israel and the editor of the nationally distributed Chabad weekly pamphlet ''Sichat HaShavua''. After the passing of previous Chabad spokesman Berke Volf, Brod became almost the only official Chabad spokesman in the Israeli media. Sidney Sanford Brod (December 13, 1899 – February 10, 1955) was an American assistant director, producer and screenwriter who was nominated during the 6th Academy Awards for the short lived Best Assistant Director category.
